Posts: 397 Location: Wisconsin | Looking for some used trolling rods. Would prefer rods used only 3years or less, but open to older rods in good condition. I don't care for any particular brand

Posts: 104 Location: Grantsburg, Wisc | Go buy a couple new Shimano TDR rods. They are about $29 a piece. I just picked up 2 from Thorne Bros yesterday. They highly recommended these rods.

Posts: 347 Location: Vilas County, WI | Those TDR's seem to be a great value, but whats the difference between TDR trolling rods and regular rods? For example, I have 2 Shimano Sojourn musky rods laying around that have been my back-up rods or for guests. They're 8 foot, Heavy Power, Fast Action. Would those suffice for trolling? Basically, do I need to have 'trolling' rods to troll?

Posts: 60 Location: Poca, West Virginia | I use my casting rods to also troll with just make sure to keep your drag pressure on the medium to light side. It's the shock of your lure catching a snag that can break a regular casting rod. Trolling rods use a blend of graphite and fiberglass which make them better suited for trolling, trolling can be hard on all your equipment. I use a 36" 130lb fluorocarbon leader and 80 lb braid for trolling no matter which rod I use.
