Posts: 8 | Hello everyone. I have been hearing rumors about a big fish caught here in northern minnesota the last month. I heard Jerry Sondag caught a 57 inch 28 inch girth musky up here somewhere. I'm just wondering if it were tru and if it has been put on the site anywhere. My grandmother lives not to far from him and shes the one who told me about it. I know hes on this site from time to time. Does anybody have better information about this fish or a photo, or something? Wondering if it's true?

Posts: 8 | Yeah Jerry, congratulations on the hog-o-saurus! It must have been awesome! That has to be your personal best. There has to be a good story to it. I know jerry catches loads of big fish every year, but this one has to have been extraordinary.

I on the other hand, if I got that fish, would probably be in an opium den weeping uncontrollably knowing the end is near.

Posts: 692 Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | Hey everybody, thanks for the kudos on a fish that is my current personal best. It was a long time coming. There is an area I only fish a certain time of the year, because that's when the big one shows up. I saw her in 2008 when she nipped my cowgirl and I missed her. Raised her 3 times last season on the same spot, same time of year and my client raised her twice this year on a supermodel before she ate my Pacemaker 10 feet from the boat. It was an awesome experience to say the least. 3 years in the making, and I finally had her in the bag. The crazy thing is that a couple days before, I boated a 54.5" on the very same pacemaker, and my client boated a heavy 52" a couple days before that. It was a monster filled week of bloody knuckles. The musky gods have been very kind.... Actually the fish gods period, as I went to Australia in Sept and landed a 850 LB black marlin. It has been a great year! 31 over 50 inches in the boat thus far, with 11 client personal bests. Thanks to all my friends and clients for a very memorable season! I have a feeling that the hard water will be here again soon. Only a short time of chasing muskies left in 2010. Attachments ---------------- sondag_black850.JPG (155KB - 186 downloads)

Posts: 8 | That is pretty cool that you chased it for that long - I've heard you are the man when it comes to fishing in that area and that you have alot of other guides chasing you around. My buddy hired you in June and had a blast. He said you knew every strand of cabbage in the lake and had him on fish for the 2 days you guys were in the boat together. He caught a few nice ones with you, not sure if he's in the 31 fifties club or not, but that in itself is awesome! I'm sending you a PM about coming out next season for a day or two. How about some more pics of fish in the 31? i would love to see some of those hogs! Edited by JacobyAnderson 10/26/2010 9:44 PM

Posts: 244 Location: Mallard Island Lake Vermilion MN | This kid can fish....an must not work for the man during day 7 to 3:30. Looks like he is having fun on less pressured waters...enjoy. But was wondering with all these big fish photos I just saw here why muskie hounds are not invading this area like they have have done other lakes in resent past? Or are they? I'm away from this type stuff all summer so have no idea except for what one hears in boat or dockside at marinas or my docks from so called friends come round looking for some magic pattern or hot lure.. LOL Nice fish but the whole photos is very nice........ Be safe on water today...kind of windy all over...swoooosih. 22 months Cancer free today......Dracula blood draws of last week came in an shows 0.10% undetechtable...oh yeah! Keep on rocken! : ) Tommy Edited by KidDerringer 10/27/2010 7:03 AM

Posts: 692 Location: Pelican Rapids, MN | KidDerringer - firstly I'd like to congratulate you on your successes with your battle. It is much more impressive than any fish. To answer your question, I wish the waters I'm on were less pressured. The area I fish has been getting pounded the last few years since Mille Lacs cooled off. Two weeks ago on a Wednesday there were 38 boats musky fishing on one of the 3000 acre lakes I guide on. Some are catching most are not. These fish are getting a quick education. It's just a matter of understanding the lake, it's cycles, and the attitudes of the muskies. I have fished this area a long time, so I'm familiar with how to work around the crowds. It gets frustrating, but you just need to stick it out. It doesn't hurt to have your big fish spots memorized either! JKahler - It was a Plastic pacemaker that she ate. Posts: 392 Location: lake x...where the hell is it? | we fished with jerry a week after he caught that fish and it was great to hear the story about him catching it cuz he told us a story about her last year when fishing with him about her. he said he made 1 cast and she hit and got off and he went home. we went out with him this year and we put 12 fish in the boat and saw 40 nice ones. thanks again jerry.

Since I have probably only seen one fish that ever came close to something like the one pictured here, how sure are people that they are actually seeing the same fish year over year? I suppose there is some marking or something on the fish to dictate that. I have often seen the same buck year after year because of distinctive rack characteristics or something.
