Posts: 3915 | Does anybody actually use these things? How do you go about it? Most useful as a bait to bring the musky to a live sucker? Thanks for tips.

Posts: 2427 Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | I have used them a TON and have caught a couple hundred fish on them. I wrote an article in Musky Hunter several years ago outlining exactally what I do when using them in the late fall. Awesome bait for sure.

Posts: 238 | Absolutly awsome bait when the water gets cold for an in your face verticle approach, which is were they shine the best but i have also caught fish speed trolling them in summer and burning them while casting. Really solid hookups on this bait as well.

Location: Contrarian Island | the little I have used them I did have some hits...imo the smaller version is easier to work and gets just as many hits as the bigger version? those who use them agree? are there any other fuzzy duzzit knockoffs? I believe there was a guy on here that made some of his own..tried to PM him to get one or 2 but he never got back to me...what about a larger Zip lure??

Posts: 231 | Some one once told me everything looks black 25-30' down.LOL The couple I own are black w/gold gold prism tape on the side. I think that's a good around color for general use, (as I feel vibration is more key with this). Not an expert tho. Chas

Posts: 2089 | I use them only late season , which is probably a mistake. "Back in the day" (hahaha), we used 'em to fish steeper/deeper breaks while dragging muskie sausages(suckers) and casting rubber/cranks. Take a break from casting and go vertical on 'em while keeping a bait/presentation, "in the zone". Mostly use them near the bottom or perhaps around deep wood/cribs.Vary your "cadence" and control the bait on descent , don't let it just fall. Use your electronics to find "moving " structure as well. The deeper you're fishing, the wider the cone angle and you can be really precise with a vertical presentation. Pretty cool seeing a mark/hook/arc and catching the freakin' thing.Gotcha! Shouldn't be fair.Hahahahahahaha. I have several, but the 1st one I bought is still the 1st one on the rod. Black/silver prism. More like a holographic silver. Superlines have helped a ton in getting hooks in fish and rods with some tip, help keep 'em pinned. I'm looking forward to trying the new model with a #10 off the tail. Looks pretty cool. Leaves are falling and the truck read 45 on the way home from work tonight , so it won't be too long.........

Posts: 238 | I only use the smaller one as thats all i have.I have had the most succes on black with green prism and chartreus with silver prism.I really think however that i have had the best luck on these colours cause i fish them the most.I have also caught them on black silver prism and blue silver prism. I have caught them from 8 to 25 feet on this bait with the majority coming from 14 to 18 feet of water. Some times verticle but ofter i cast them out and count them down then yo-yo them back to the boat with a hard upward rip and swim style retrieve always keeping a tight line to the bait.No slack line.Very similar to swiming a jig, with a more aggresive rip. At time the hits on this bait are incrediblly strong bone crushing hits other times you can hardly feel the take, all of a sudden there is just mushy weight there so set the hook imediatly on every little thing you feel.

Posts: 1061 Location: Medford, WI | Mr. Jonesi, thanks for the tips and suggestions on using these. As Mike mentioned, his article in MH a while back was also a good read...great way to differentiate yourself from others. Great topic and suggestions guys. I used them a bit last fall with no luck, but they'll get more time this year. -Jake Bucki

Posts: 139 | I use them all the time in the fall and have been productive even when the sucker gets no action. Very good bait to drop and jig every hour or so to give the wrists and arms a little break from casting. I primarily use the smaller version in black with silver prism with a single strand leader. I know all of this has been said above....just reiterating.

Posts: 1060 Location: Palm Coast, FL | I use these consistently all times of the year. I have over 20 of them in my box. I generally use the smaller one. I would HIGHLY recommend changing the hooks out! I use a Gamakatsu 4X 2/0 on the front and 4/0 on the rear. This will definitely help reduce lost fish. As far as depths...depends what you are seeing on your graph. In 40 fow I will jig anywhere from off the bottom to 5 foot depending where I am seeing fish on the graph. I literally watch fish come up to the bait on my screen before they hit! If you have more questions, you can give me a call 574-551-0214.
