So it's been, what, 3 seasons that the Tranx has been out. I was fortunate enough to have quite a few side jobs this year and stashed enough to buy a Tranx. I'm looking at the PG.

I figure there will always be something out new but I'm not one to be on the leading edge. Rumors that Abu Garcia is going to have a comparable reel.

I already own a Revo Toro Winch 60.

So - Tranx owners - any issues? Is it the reel to "end all arguments" so to speak. Where is the reel at its best?

Thanks in advance for the insight.

I wouldn't trade mine for any other reel out there.
I use them for big cranks, big suicks, big rubber, big bucktails, big tubes, big gliders, (anything big) :P also thrown dc7en, and other small stuff with them, but my 300D cast the light baits better :P

The seller even sent me one too many called them told them to send me a return label and I would send it back they never did so I bought a new rod last year .I have tranx , TE ' s and 400 D I used a tranx 75 percent of the time last year

I have a pg and in the early season i don't throw it a ton because I am throwing a little smaller stuff. once the water warms up and I am throwing blades or big stuff in the fall I use it most of the time
because of its size and weight there are some situations where I prefer to use my luna but when it comes to big stuff there is nothing close that I have seen.

There is no better reel IMHO. I'm a smaller guy and it IS heavy. While I have used my PG all day cause the fish wanted bucktails burned fast, I prefer to only use it half a day max. My buddy has one too, and thats nice cause if I get tired, we just switch off with the hot Dbl 10. One of us is almost always throwing a Tranx.

I just bought one, its huge and heavy but if its really light years ahead of the rest I can deal with the size. Havent fished it yet so the jury is still out.

It's big, it's heavy, it's relatively expensive, but in the world of big lures there is no levelwind reel that comes anywhere near it.

no better reel for blades imo.. you can find them with little use for 350 range if you keep your eyes open...I also love it for big rubber... I have 2 HGs and find myself using them 80% of the time

I would try it out and also smaller Trinidad's, saltiest 20. Worth giving them all a shot. The tranx is a nice reel, that I am guessing is super tough on the inside, I just could not get by the side plates flexing. They do a great job though for sure. BR

The Tranx has met or exceeded all the hype prior to it's releas IMO. I have three - two HGs and one PG - and three Calcutta TE's. I use the Tranx 85% to 90% of the time, maybe more. Smooth, dependable, and bullet-proof. If I had to choose one, the HG would get the nod, particularly if you switch out the original stock handle for the longer Trinidad 20A or 16NA handle, which will provide you more leverage and an easier time cranking hard to pull baits or when super fast speeds are desired on easy pulling baits. I found that, with some baits, there is an advantage to feeling them as you retrieve, particularly for night fishing. With the PG, there are some baits you simply can't feel when being retrieved. First season with the Tranx HG. Built like a tank and performs great, but it is big and heavy. Tried it on a few combos before it found a home. First was a jerkbait rod, line recovery was great but the reel was just to heavy and fatigue was an issue. Put it on an 8' bucktail rod and burning tens was no problem, but the reel still seemed heavy for the rod. I much prefer my lighter LJV for that setup. It finally found it's home on my 8'6 XXH big bait rod for rubber and large cranks/blades. So far I'd say it seems to be a really solid reel, but due to the size/weight it is best on a longer heavier rod so the combo is more balanced. Have a 9' heavy fast on the way for next year that I will try it on. If it works well I will be in the market for another Tranx.

I love my Tranx PG, coming from the old school of reels this thing is the perfect balance of "high speed" reeling (30+inches per crank) and power.
I have this reel on either my St Croix Legend Tournament 8'6" Big Dawg or my 9' Big Nasty with the extended palming trigger, which makes it actually very comfortable to the point that I don't even think about the size of the reel.
Highly recommended, I'll probably pick up another one next season.

I have a Tranx PG that I use for everything but gliders, had a few issues with the side plate popping off a few times, one time mid cast, but I think I’ve got that resolved now, and I don’t really like it for lighter baits, but for double 10’s, 13’s and any sort of rubber, I like it, though personally I’d get a Saltist 20 for a dedicated rubber setup.
