hey all,

thinking about a trip to cave run this spring. went last year in march and would like to try a little later in the season. was thinking about the 1st-2nd week of may. want to fish shallow developing weeds/timber and chuck blades, gliders, topwaters. Is this a good time of year for those patterns?

Same deal you ran into last year. You had freaky cold not really normal. May can be anything from cold to water getting in the upper 70's. Best odds are nice conditions at that time . [ but I'm not a Legend ]

Thanks for the reply larry. I know that nothing in muskie fishing is a sure thing. I just didnt really care for the whole "rattlebait" fishing style. I am looking to target fish in more traditional patterns like mentioned above, and enjoy fishing with those techniques. I see a lot of info regarding the very early season fishing at cave run, but not much in the way of what should amount to early summer fishing up north.

Middle September sounds to be more up your alley IMO. Blades and topwater are deadly at this time. I do better on gliders in march-april.

Hey Lenny,
I went there two years ago in early May for a couple days on the water with Gregg Thomas, where he introduced me to verticle jigging just off and down in between the sunken/flooded trees as well as working the early weed growth in the flats with Red October Tubes; both methods produced.
