Converting a T.I. 16" Grunt to a jointed swimbait- I know 3 sections will work, but what about 4? Even better, or could it hinder?

I've played around with some of James Grunt kits recently and there's one thing I would advise doing BEFORE you cut the lure into either three or four pieces. After installing the lip make sure you float the lure as one piece to see if it floats without lisping to one side or the other. I found quite a bit of variation in wood density on those blanks which required weighting adjustments so the lure would run true. Once you cut the blank into pieces it makes the problem of weight adjustments much more difficult.
