Thinking about making a rail to hold three down easters for trolling and want to space them 12". Anyone see any problems with this?

No problem but I would consider 2 DE's and a recessed or rocket launcher for boards.

Spacing them 12" apart I assume? Or on a 12" rail?

Spacing them 12" so the rail would be around 24"+

Not sure if you considered the trak system for your downeast. There are I believe, 2 or 3 ft traks for your rails.

Really helps stabilize your downeast holders.

I had rail mount DE, and changed over to track this past spring. I really like the track a lot better, it offers a lot of flexibility. Its nice because you can remove your rod holders when not in use, you can also mix and match items in your track.

What I didn't want to lose with the track was the ability to tip the rod holders to get the rod tips under the water (tipping with rail mounts are easy). So I modified my DE holders to be able to tip. Now I have a system that fits my style of fishing very well.

Something to consider before adding rails

Anyway for spacing I attached photos of what three DE holders with smaller trolling reels look like on 24" track for reference, I did cut my down rods butt grip way down to clear the side rod. Its necessary when running three rods per side, but not an issue with 2 rods per side
