| I would like to add a keel weight to my bucktails. Can I purchase a do-it keel mold and not use the chain but instead use .062 wire instead or is there a better solution? |

Location: Oconomowc, WI | That should work good, I do a similar thing with a mold that I made. I put a little v bend in the wire where the weight is going before I pour the lead just to make sure it won't spin. |

| The spin is what bothers me . I now put on an egg sinker after I make the loop for the hook and pound it down with a hammer to shape it like a keel weight. I would like an easier way to get the same effect. |

Location: Oconomowc, WI | I take a piece of wood, router a hole the size of the weight I want. Then I cut it in half put a couple pegs and holes in it so it lines up the same each time. I clamp it together and drill a hole towards the top of the mold where the wire will run. Put the wire in and pour the lead. The wood will eventually crack from the heat, but I can get a lot out of it, and I've got plenty of scrap wood to make more. I usually use oak since it's harder, and clamp very tight with vice grips so the lead doesn't leak anywhere. I can put pics up this weekend if anyone wants to see. |

| Thanks, for the info, its the same method i have been using, but would like to make some more complicated shapes, so started looking into other options. :P |

Location: Maryland | I make my own open wire loops with my wire. Slide a egg sinker over both the wires and it keeps it from spinning. Also make the wire loop long enough to put ur coils on as well. |

Location: SE, WI. | I use my Power head mold for keel weights, 1/2 and a 3/4 oz. I'd show a pic but have no computer for a bit. use .055 or .062 wire in mold. JD |

Location: Madtown, WI | I was buying keel weights from some guy in milwaukee but then figured out I can just put a V-like bend in the wire right in front of the back hook and use a standard lead weight from gander, and you've got yourself a keel. |

| Ditch the keel all together... Just bend eye of the bait to about a 60 degree angle and the bait wont roll anymore. Problem solved without lead. |
