Posts: 427 Location: Planet Meltdown | I'm looking to turn my livewell on my Crestliner into a bait storage box with down spout. Only problem is when I plug up the piping for the drain, rain can still leak into the access door with no way out. It will be a pain to pull baits out to pull the drain plug. Has anyone made these watertight with weather strips or perhaps some other product out there and how well did it work? Any other ideas? Thanks

Location: Eastern Ontario | Just thinking out loud here but could you remove the drain hose at the livewell as long as it's plugged at transom and any water in your now tackle locker would just drain into bilge. Could be reconnected if you want to go back to livewell. Edited by horsehunter 9/15/2014 3:34 PM

Posts: 427 Location: Planet Meltdown | It has a seperate drain, not connected to the bilge system, that drains out the back of the transom. I suppose I could just plug it up at the transom but would much rather figure out a way to make the entire compartment water tight.

Posts: 83 Location: Des Moines Iowa | Disconnect at transom, plug transom hole, and let compartment drain into bilge area and let bilge pump take care of it. How much water gets in during a rain. If more than just a tiny bit reseal hatch. Edited by muskiebob1 9/15/2014 4:50 PM

Posts: 45 | I took my livewell out. It made the storage compartment acouple inches deeper and wider on each end. Its carpeted underneath. Just plug the holes or the hoses. Now no problems with milfoil police.

Posts: 35 | You don't really need to worry about a little water getting in there. I plugged my livewell and turned it into bait storage. Sure a little water gets in here and there from rain or splashing waves but it's not that much. Just make sure to leave the compartment door open when you store the boat after outings and you'll be fine. You can pull the baits a couple times over the season and clean out the livewell. I haven't had an issue at all.

Posts: 427 Location: Planet Meltdown | Thanks for the replies fellas. I'm going to plug the drain at the transom. Next time it rains hard I will see what I'm dealing with.
