I'm excited to mention that I was able to be a part in helping with some In VIVO Sampling of musky September 3rd. A few years ago Muskies Canada was contacted by The University of Waterloo about helping out in the sampling of musky but things did not work out with the original contact at the University so it was put on the back burner. Fast forward to this spring and MCI was contacted again by:
Vincent Bessonneau, PhD
Postdoctoral Fellow
Prof. Pawliszyn's Research Group
Department of Chemistry
University of Waterloo

He contacted our President of MCI and asked if we could help out. Chris got a hold of me and asked if I was interested in helping and right away I said yes as I always want to try and give back as much as I can. So September 3rd we headed out to see if we could get a couple musky we hit the water late but still got good samples from a 41" and a 50" we lost two other musky.

In this study they are developing at the U of Waterloo is a non-lethal in vivo sampling technique for monitoring pollutants in fish. This will make it possible to test big fish like musky with out killing them. They have found that this sampling works in smaller fish and have sampled many of them in the last two years but have not been able to get a musky for sampling until this week.

Here are a couple pics from sampling its a very small needle (way smaller then our hooks) that they use. A full report will be in the Muskies Canada Release Journal.

I will post a follow up when the results are back.
