Personally I attribute the little success I've had to Jesus and the DNR.

Buck Perry was an innovator. But one need not be a spoonplugger or read the book to learn how to effectively put fish in the boat consistently while trolling, and a huge volume of innovation that took place long after his book was written needs to be studied and considered. Let's call Buck's info a shortcut to an integral portion of the overall puzzle, a great place to start if that's where you WANT to start.
I personally don't like spoonplugging. I know how (learned a very long time ago), and certainly have caught fish using the technique, but just plain don't enjoy it. That isn't blasphemy, it's a technique I don't enjoy. I also don't throw Pounders.
While reading, read 'Through the Fish's Eye'-- Sosin and Clark. And Jason Lucas on Bass Fishing. Those guys knew a little too. Main thing is to read and learn what you can from doing so. Another good read is Behavior of Teleost Fishes. Be ready for some work with that one. |
