| This might be a long but interesting post here. A friend of mine had a conversation with a guy that told him about muskies in a small creek. Anyway, last week we hiked about 3 miles off a gravel road, and tossed a couple spinnerbaits in a very deep pool in this creek. On my 6th or 7th cast a fish rocketed out from a log jam and blasted my bait. I thought I had a good hook up but he got off right at the edge of the bank. This fish was at least 26" to 30" in length. I couldn't believe it. My friend told me that his info told him that there were some fish in the upper 30's in this creek. Has anyone on here ever caught/fished in small creeks for musky. We are going back this week with a small boat and a few more baits. If anyone has any experience with this, what baits would you use? This creek if full of logs and large rocks. Thanks much!! |

| Tons of muskies are caught in small creeks in west Virginia and I know in a lot of southern states and I know of some big fish coming from these creeks. I have caught them on tubes in small water but I think of lot of guys will just down size some with there baits. |

Location: WV | Springtime is awesome in these small streams. Had a friend take me musky fishing several years ago and when I saw the creek I thought he was on crack. Creek was probably less than 15 feet at its widest and 4 feet deep in the holes. We contacted 10 muskies (mostly small) in less than 2 hours. In this creek, the muskies move up in the early spring when the water is higher and as the water drops in late spring they get trapped. Simply awesome fishing if you don't care about size!!

| Here are a couple photos of my friend and myself with some small creek muskies, Both of these creeks you could cast across. The picture of my friend the camera angle is face about 45 degree down stream which makes the river look bigger than it is.
I am sure your creek has bigger fish in it, you may be sorting through some smaller ones to get them but that is still fun

| My buddy and his brother cought 7 one day in a creek here in ky. I've personally cought two and seen the biggest fish I have ever seen in that creek, it was a monster. |

| I fish creeks quite a bit, slow fallin gliders work great! I've said a few times on here that you can't go wrong with a black sucker pattern hellhound! Obviously if ur throwin toward shore ur gonna have to work it fast to get over the deeper water! But later in the year I like castin strait upstream or downstream, and I agree with Bulldawgs too they seem to like those 2 baits this time of year at least in my experience! Hope this helps! Location: Smith Creek | Twitch baits or flies work well. You want something buoyant or neutrally buoyant. Get the bait just below the surface and let the current take it past the log jams and rocks. |

| Thanks very much for the info guys. We are going to hit this creek again with a much better bait selection. I will post pics if we get one. If anyone else has bait choices, please let me know. |

| I love fishing small creeks. Never had the chance to fish muskies, but I got into the smallmouth by chance one year and then continued to target them. My biggest smallie to date is still an 18 1/2 out of a small creek, and my best friend has a 19 1/4. Unbelievable fishing can be had if you are willing to work(hike) for the prime areas. My favorite spot I caught 6 fish in 8 casts, 5 smallmouth all over 16 inches and one 20 inch walleye. |

Location: Poynette WI. | I've been fishing a creek that flows into a river. I usually start fishing a couple miles up from where it enters the river and fish it up stream for trout. Its very thick along the shorelines for the most part and I wade up stream so I'm not casting in all the mud i stirred up down stream. I've caught a ton of small mouth, mostly 12-14inches but an occasional 17-18in fish. I've also caught some small 10-15in pike too. my last time out this summer i seen alot of pike around 5-7inches swimming around. I fish a lot of marabou jigs and xraps for trout, but have yet to see a musky. however i have caught a lot of musky's a couple miles down river from where the creek runs in. How far up do you think musky's will travel up a creek? this creek i'm guessing only strecthes out 10 miles as a crow flies into marsh land. Maybe I should try the first couple miles next spring. I watched an episode of keye's outdoors where they were fishing a creek that looks very similar to where I'm fishing and right away I wanted to give it a try. Next year i'll have to spend more time out there and hopefully my timing is right, catching musky's way back in the woods a long way away from everyone would be AWESOME!!

| Fishfinder101, the creek we fish is at minimum 3 miles from the nearest gravel road. We haven't seen any trash or tracks where anyone has been walking. My friend has done some Google looking at maps of the creek and it is just over 10 miles long and runs as an adjoining water flow between two rivers. We are going to somehow get a small boat of canoe on this water to really fish it. I hope to post some pics real soon. |
