I am looking to setup a guided fishing trip on tonka to get some help out there. Thinking about going with Schroeder's as they have a 6 hour guarantee trip. Anyone had experience with them or any others on tonka or want to offer me tips or I would be able to take someone out. Searched and found some old threads so figured I start a new one. Thanks

I know nothing about Lake Minnetonka guides. Having said that, the Schroeder 6 hour trip seems a bit expensive for 6 hours, and the guarantee only seems to be worth something if you book two trips. By comparison, other guides charge $400 for a full day, so keep that in mind. As muskie fisherman we all no that there's no guarantees.

I believe they give you your money back if someone in the boat doesn't get a fish and I am thinking of bringing along 2 other guys which would cut the cost a bit but yeah it is pricey. I need to make sure that if the guide catches a fish that it doesn't count towards the guarantee.

If they'll give you your money back then it's a pretty good deal. One thing to keep in mind is to think about why you're hiring the guide. Obviously we all want to catch a fish, but if your main reason is to learn the lake, then it might be worth looking into someone that would spend more time on the water with you showing you more spots.

Pistolpete:

I would read the guarantee again. Here is the exact wording copied from his website:

"We know these waters so well, we offer Guaranteed Muskie Trips. Book TWO 6 hour trips, and we Guarantee at least one boated muskie or you get a free 4 hour trip!"

So........you need to book TWO 6 hour trips and if a fish is not boated (not sure if the guide counts) you get a 4 hour trip for free. You do not get ANY money back.

Good luck.

Yeah I did email them and they said you need to book 2 trips in a year like you said which I don't see happening. Makes the guarantee not that great. I guess I want to learn the lake most importantly so maybe getting out with someone on here would be the best bet. Talked to someone helpful at thorne bros last night, maybe I could throw him some money to show me some spots. The issue is I am kind of lost at where to go on tonka, I somewhat know what to look for but thats always easier said than done once you actually get on the water.

Seeing if someone on here has on open seat is certainly a possibility or having them along in your boat if you have one is another option. You certainly could still hire a guide, just look for the one that will put the most time on the water during a single trip.

Pick a bay or smaller portion of the lake and focus your efforts there until you start to figure the fish out. There is endless structure with all of the points, humps, and weed growth in over 20' of water. Pay attention to the moon and fish dusk and dawn. Don't mind the pleasure crafters either, the fish don't.

Anyone else? Looking to book this in the next few days? Seems like everyone has a different opinion which is making it difficult.
