Location: Ashland WI | I am thinking of adding a battery to my system for longer run times. It would be nice for camping trips where I don't have access to a charger.
I have two questions:
1) How do I wire the two batteries together?
2) How do I connect my onboard charger?

Location: The desert | Connect them in parallel. Positive to positive, negative to negative.
Not sure on your on-board. I'd guess the same way if they were hooked in series. |

| Connect the batteries pos to pos and neg to negative--this essentially tuns them into one big battery. Connect trolling motor to one battery, and connect the charger the same way. |

I need to complement you on your answer. To the point, and detailed. NICE.
Let me throw in that if you are camping I have heard some of the inexpensive solar chargers work well. But I think you would need to seperate your batteries. But you could maybe set one battery on the beach one day, abd then use it the next? But I don't know anything about them so if you would use one you may want to check out the technical details more.  |

You could run a 12 volt system with a bunch of batteries, as long as they are hooked up in parallel. A 24 volt system is two batteries hooked up in series.

Location: Michigan | Cool. Did a little reading up on it and want to see if I have the basic idea; hooking batteries up in a series would give me more power, but same running time while a parallel connection gives me the same power, but longer running time? |

Location: Quebec, Canada | All depends on wiring extention length. Minn Kota has a pretty usefull chart:

Per example, if you end up using 6 AWG for your extention, use the same to connect your batteries in parallel.
