Just a curious question...after reading the "how you have f#d yourself up fishing" thread. Wondering how many of us workout, either for muskie fishing or not...

I lift weights every other day and try to ride bike every day when weather and bad knees permit.

I do quite a bit, part of living out west I suppose. Mtn biking, hiking, jogging with the pup, skiing, the gym during the week. Try to stay as healthy as possible. It has done quite a bit for me. Ben

Been working out all of this year 2x a day. It averages to about 5 days a week but if I am home on the weekends then I work out too. Weights, treadmill, situps, leg lifts, crunches, pushups. Everything using my legs gets ankle weights. Down 30lbs since January. Feels great.

Weight training in the winter. No weights during fishing season as it's way too taxing on the joints trying to cast and weight train.

Yup sad to say but 16oz curls is about it for me! I need to tho, so I can actually lift those pigs up a little longer to get nice pics. And I just had a son last year so I'd like to be in good shape so I can stay in the game long enough to show my boy all the hot spots I've acquired over the years and make some memories with him.

The whole point of exercising for me at least is, if you cant catch a big muskie, at least you can give a gun show!

I run my azz off at work all day long at work, combined with fishing(which we all know is a work out within itself) its good enough. I suppose I do do yoga twice a month, and it Has helped my core strength ten fold. Plus I'm married... so who cares anymore

Here's how it works: I tell the wife I'm going musky fishing and she takes a hold on my St. Croix Big Nasty. She tries to hold while I'm pulling away, then I pull while she tries to hold. Then I pull, she pulls, I pull, she pulls........well, after about 30 minutes of this she says, "OK, at least you've had your isometric exercise, now go sit in the darn boat with your feet up and tell the other fat guy about how you once caught a fish!"

Living an active lifestyle, I never saw the need to "work out." People are lazier these days than ever. Some folks just need to get off the couch and do something. i.e. Get off the riding lawnmower and try push mowing for some exercise. Skip the gas station car wash and use a bucket and sponge. Try casting not trolling, lol... and many more.

Todd, that fish would look much bigger if you were content to be a scrawny old man....

Fairweather cyclist, here. Ride a couple days/week from the Spring warm-up until a long sleeve jersey & windbreaker are insufficient.

I exercise five days a week, swimming and weight training. A few years ago when I started doing more musky fishing, I noticed my forearms would get a little sore after a day on the water. I mentioned it to a personal trainer at the Y I belong to and he suggested I work in some hammer curls, making it a point to bend my wrist at the top, to the point the weight touches my shoulder. That really has helped. I do it three times a week in the winter months. He further suggested that if I fished in rough water, to do that exercise and a couple others standing on balance ball (looks like an exercise ball cut in half). That way you work your core, legs and also improve your balance while making a casting motion to strengthen upper body. I told him if it gets that rough, I have a cottage well stocked with beer but it did look like a good exercise if you are out casting in a heavy chop on Green Bay or something.
I am 63 and want to keep fishing for another 20 years and I think working out will help with that goal.

I play rugby and compete in strongman competitions. I lift 3-4 days/week and run at least 2. If I don't train, I get left in the dust.

I am a cyclic exerciser meaning I go hardcore for awhile, then have an "off" time. When I work out it is 5X a week as I use the other two days for rest/recovery. Just as important as the workout days. My workouts are usually P90X, P90X2, or P90X3 depending on what I feel like doing for a couple month period of time. Along with that I usually run and train for 5K's, 10K's, and recently have taken up Triathlons. Along with Triathlons I started, kind of, training for 1/2 marathons and full marathons. Long term goal of an Ironman finish in a few years. In the winter I have also taken up cross-country skiing with my kids, and will snow shoe on occasion.

I use to think I could get away with just musky fishing and hunting to get my exercise, but that caused health problems due to an imbalance in the body. I feel much better overall now that I have taken up being more active the whole year, and instituting a variety of activities to hit as many different muscle groups, and cardio, as possible. Along with this is the variety of activities as a stress relief.

I went from working out 4-5 times a week but due to a back muscle issue I had to stop a couple years ago. Thankfully I have really started to get my issue isolated and worked on thanks to a program at work. I am back to running a once or twice a week as a start, don't want to mess up my progress. ART, active release technique, has worked wonders for me. Can't wait until I feel comfortable enough to start lifting the pile of weights that are collecting dust in the basement.

Weight lifting 5x's a week, until wrestling season starts in November. From then through February, just wrestling and maybe a quick lift 2-3 times a week. Every year my wrestlers stay the same age, but I keep getting older...physically.
