I have a removable cap on the bow of the boat, and I have no idea what function it serves (unless it is just dry storage). Can someone tell me the purpose of this?

Yep it is dry storage. Comes in handy for tools and they stay out of the elements.

I keep a headlamp and multi-tool in mine. Also if you take it completely out you have much easier access to the under bow wiring for your trolling motor and sonar.
