As the ice leaves the lakes what do muskies do? Do they go shallow as fast as the bass, or stay deep? Are they catchable? In nd there are no closures for the fishing season and if they behaved like the bass do it would be a chance to land a monster, what are your thoughts? Where to target and lure size speed and action?

Look for warmest water or current areas in your chosen lake and you have probably found bait fish and the muskies. There are several tracking studies done by various state fisheries departments that will give you a good starting point.

Have seen early spring fish caught on just about everything (pounders, glide baits, spinner baits and bucktail jigs to name a few). Have seen fish eat and other times I think they just get annoyed and snap at stuff. They are catchable and yet at times insanely frustrating when you can see them but cant get them to eat.

Good thing is the spawn can be very long and some fish may be pre-spawn, others spawning and some already done. Good luck!
