Posts: 561 Location: Monee, Illinois | Hey all I am leaving for Punta Cana next Thursday and I can't seem to find any information on Deep Sea or Costal fishing. Does anyone have any information. The hotel said I can book threw them when I get down there but I would like to to know what I am in for before I look. Thanks, pga

Posts: 571 Location: Germantown, WI | I have been down to punta cana twice now once during december and once in february. both times i had hoped to try some deep sea fishing, but water was always too rough and boats didn't go out the weeks i was there. that being said, weather was great 80-88 degrees but never felt hot because of that constant 20mph wind coming off the ocean. if you go out, take the dramamine!

Posts: 1916 Location: Greenfield, WI | I was there last Easter. The resort recommended strongly against fishing because of consistantly bad reports. I met a guy from England who went out. A bait broke off, so the rod was put away because they only had one bait per rod. The equipment was junk. In fairness, I am sure that there is more than one fishing boat, maybe you will have better luck. In general, it isn't recommended to be outside the resort without escorts with rides set up by the resort. Good Luck.

Posts: 571 Location: Germantown, WI | Sorry if this is off muskie fishing, but to answer your question, i liked punta cana alot. we stayed at barcelo bavaro resorts. food was good, service great, weather really nice. let's face it the dominican is a 3rd world country, so if you like parts of mexico that are real commercialized, you won't like it here. however, if you like lounging around on the beach, eating/drinking/soaking up the sun it's great! previous post was correct, it's not recommended you go off resorts by yourself w/o guides. and whatever you do, don't try renting a car. i know this sounds strange, but if you get into accident, regardless of fault, both drivers go to jail for 3-7days before judge decides what should happen to you. Wish i was going, great time of year to be down there. there are some nice cultural, historical and countryside tours to take. Have fun!

We where down last May (1st Wisconsin opener I missed in 20 years!) and did spend one day deep sea fishing. Our resort had some flyers on a deep sea charter (can't remember the name). The ony time we could make it out was a afternoon trip. No Marlin but be caught some Tuna. When we got to the marina, the morning charters came in with nice catch's of Tuna and Marlin. I would try for a morning trip when your down there. I know I will next time.

Posts: 21 | I was down there last May for a wedding. Went with the "Gone Fishing" Charter. Would NOT go back with them. They wanted to get use drunk rather than keep trolling (we didn't need help with that!). We had the entire boat to ourselves. The first mate would walk back and grab a line, making the drag scream and yell "fish". They entire boat would run to the back and he kept saying "got off". After the second time I called him out and he told me to "keep quiet". Then they dropped us off down from the beach and wanted us to walk past all the vendors on the walk back to our resort. They were supposed to supply all drinks, which equaled 3 crappy beers a piece. But they had BOTTLES AFTER BOTTLES of a local drink called "Mama Wana" Aka liquid Viagra. No fish, no real bites, and a horrible trip.

Posts: 299 | Been to Punta Cana, DR and a okay trip...every night if take my wife on a walk on the beach and had to be escorted by security with assault rifles. Apparently pirating from Haiti was common and a robbery occurred days before we got there. Pirates would go in stealth mission at night and come on beaches stealing for guests. The resorts and food was good but your are limited to the resort due to safety most times. We did leave the resort one day for horseback riding and was safe with no issues. As mentioned everyday the seas were so rough and we never saw a fishing boat the entire time we were there. It is very cost effective and a cool place but in my opinion I'd rather visit the Keys, Costa Rica, Belieze, Bahamas etc....if I recall Punta Cana is a pretty long ride from the airport through some rough places but once you hit the resorts it's really nice. I'm definitely glad I went but don't think I'd ever go back.

Posts: 180 Location: Elgin, IL | Was at the Grand Palladium a few years ago. Was able to book a trip which was set up at resort. Included transportation to boat marina if you want to call it one, different. 4 hours of trolling and one Barracuda for the day.. Guides were very friendly. Have fun and good luck.
