Looks good and original, wet sand then re-coat should be fine.

Should have took some pics with all of the dirt stuck to it , luckily one of the worst spots is covered by the eye !

As one who has put many a wet bait to the floor I would say yours came out great! Excellent cleanup I'd say. That lure would for sure go directly into action.
