Ok...I have been going round and round on what to do. I could use your advice to help me decide.

Currently I use a toro 50 5.4:1 on my jerkbait rod (7'9'' TI Extra mag heavy) and throw pretty much everything on this except topwaters.

I am wanting to add another rod and reel combo to compliment these. I honestly haven't thrown D10's a ton so don't know if I could last all day throwing them with the Toro.

So.......
IF the toro is good enough for double 10's I would buy another TI rod (9ft. telescopic probably?) for throwing blades mainly and put the toro on it.

Then, what reel would be the best suited for my jerkbait rod?

HOWEVER,
IF the toro isn't efficient enough for 10's, for instance, say I wanted to burn them in, then what reel should I get instead? That would mean keeping my toro for jerkbaits, gliders, etc. I guess? Not willing to go over $300 on a reel if possible. Have been considering NaCl, lexa 400, toro 60, calcutta 400B......need some advice.

If you are going mostly blades I would get a winch. If you put the 5.4 on your bucktail pole. I would get a lexa 400.Also i have used a ti telescoping 9ft. Thumbs up!

What does the lexa 400 do that the 300 can't do in freshwater?

Toro hs for your jerk rod, 5.4 for your bucktail/everything else rod. If you can swing it get the nacl reels

Yup, try out a Toro HS for Jerks and use the 5.4 for Bucktails. One Toro HS and one 5.4 covers you for everything except pounders.

X2 on the above 2 posts,Thats how I use my Toros, also had the winch but found it too slow for me and had it converted to 5:4.1 with a Nacl double handle and love it,much more versatile now.

For a double 10 rod and reel, your best value would be....

Toro Winch & TI 9'XH
Daiwa Lexa 300/400 5.1 & TI 9'XH

Or put the Toro 5.4 on the bucktail rod, and get something HS for the Jerk rod. NACL 6.4 or Lexa 7.1, Okuma has a few options too, Shimano Curado? Plenty of good HS reels.

So what I am gathering is that my 5.4:1 toro 50 should be ok for bucktail rod, just need a better rod AND my other reel should be high speed and put on my jerkbait/glider rod. Let's say I get the NaCl in 6.4:1....put it on my glider rod which is mega heavy....assuming I don't put undo load on my reel...I should be able to use it for pounders as well....not that I throw them a ton but I do on occasion. Right???

If so, then I have heard good things about the NaCl and pikemaster really likes them so they have to be good reels! I may go that route then.

Thanks for all the advice.

I use a 5:4.1 with a shimano power handle...works great for any blade. I have it paired with a big nasty. My nephew uses a 5.4 but with a TI xxxh and it works great. I also use a 6:4.1 for jerk baits and it works great. I use the double paddle for jerks

Why not use a Toro b.s. for pounders? I do it all the time and the line pickup is great.

Is there a huge difference between the 50 and 60 models of the NaCl that is worth noting???? Would one be better than the other for my jerkbait rod (7'9" TI Mag hvy)?

No difference really, just which one feels better and more comfortable in your hand. The 60 though does have a larger spool, so there will be a slight line pick up advantage. But thats it. Other than that, no difference

I use both Toro versions with no issues. Double 10's with both depending on presentation style...sometimes the winch is a fit...helps me slow down at times...

Paired with a ToothTamer rod, the blance is great, less fatigue on my body...

I would use your 5.4 with a power handle for blades/pounders and get a NACL 6.4 for everything else
