Posts: 814 | Last fall I had to spray my lids from freezing shut with Pam. This spring I noticed the Pam had made the carpets glue soften and is no longer sticking and is lifting out of the compartment lip, what's the best stuff to use to glue carpet to aluminum? After I clean the Pam residue of course.

Location: sneaking out to get on the water ;-) | Dap contact cement works great. I redid my old 60s boat and glued carpet to the sides of it inside. Been 5 whole seasons aand it still looks new no peeeling or seperating yet.

Posts: 3475 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hiya, If you go to a local ace hardware, they should have a heavy duty 3M spray adhesive that should do really well. Just spray on both parts, let it get tacky, then press down. I redid a boat for my brother-in law last year and used this stuff...did great!! Steve

Posts: 279 Location: Central Wisconsin | I redid my Tuffy last year and used contact cement for the lids and vertical areas and would definatly use it again. Apply it to the carpet and the lid and let it get tacky and press it down. Works great!

Posts: 383 | +1 on contact cement for lids. Then go "borrow" all the family clothespins from the laundry room and clamp them down all the way around the lid until its dry. Works great!

Posts: 76 | John, I have used both, the outdoor carpet adhesive and the spray 3M product. Both worked good. Don

Posts: 496 | Dap Weldwood contact cement is hands down the best . The trick is THIN layer on both surfaces , no puddles . Let that dry . Then another thin layer on both surfaces and let that get tacky . Put them together and they are done ! Don't rush it , if its still wet it wont hold as well . Thin layers is the key . Try to do it on a nice sunny NON humid day .
