do any of you guys use lights on your boat that you flip on when you hook up with a fish? by lights i mean ones that shine in the water so you can see what your doing while fighting the fish.

I use quality headlamps for that. I keep 4 in the boat with extra batteries.
I also always bring a rechargeable spotlight when fishing at night. Very handy for a lot of reasons.
Some guys used the spring-clamp work lights with a metal shade. Clamped to the gunnel and powered by a 12 volt battery.

I use the metal painters lights with yellow bug lights in them and a power converter. Works great for me
