Buying a boat this week to leave up on a lake ..Problem is it only has a 7'rod locker. So I have to sell a few rods and try and get a few rods I can leave in the boat under lock and Key.....I was thinking 2 TDR Heavys for trolling... But what the Hell do I cast with Now? Any recommendations on two Piece rods? never used them OR any Telescopic Longer rods that retract to 7 feet? Need some opinions Thanks

Okuma 8 1/2' rods telescope to 7', or you could go with TI's 2 pc. 9' rods.

I use a two piece 9' XH TI rod. No issues this far, but the middle is a little soft

Why don't you just bring your one piece rods that you currently have with you when you go to the lake and take them home with you when you leave?

Be weird! Take them with back and forth (if your 1 pc rods will fit in the elevator w/out too much difficulty). Will give your neighbors something to talk about. You will gain fame and notoriety in your building, and be known as the "Musky Guy".

I prefer a telescopic over a 2-piece. Depending on the boat you might be able to extend the rod locker.

Is your locker 72" or 84"? If it's only 72" which is 6 feet, you'll probably have to go with 2 piece rods to get them to fit. Otherwise, I have used 2 different brands of telescopic rods and like them both. Has an 8'6" Okuma that went down to 6'11" and just fit in my 7 foot rod lockers.

If you want 9 foot rods, you'll have to go 2 piece. I haven't used them, but the 2 piece TI rods seem to get pretty good reviews. I mostly use the TI telescopic rods and they work well but the 9 footers only go down to 7'6" I think.

Honestly though, I think I would get telescopic rods that go down to 7'6" or so and bring them home. They will fit easy enough in most cars, and not be too hard to carry with you. If nervous able leaving the rods in the boat, I might still worry about leaving them in a locked rod locker. It would not take too much effort to bust a rod locker lock open, and if you bring them home you'll always know they are safe and dry.

I winced when you mentioned carrying them in an elevator. Those doors are dangerous for rods- be careful! Doors and ceiling fans are a rod's worst enemies.

As far as the choice between telescoping and 2-piece, do you prefer Ford or Chevy? It really comes down to personal preference. Obviously if you go telescoping, you'll be limited to shorter rods in order to get them in the locker. If you go two-piece, you can get the TI 9'ers which would be nice.

I personally wouldn't allow the rod locker on my boat to dictate what rods I use. I would keep/buy the rods I want and find ways around the storage issues.

What kind of boat are you buying?

You might not need 8'6'' or 9' rods?

I tried the 9ft St Croix 2pc rod. Absolutely HATED IT. I love my TI 9ft Telescopic rods, and thats comparing against a bunch of nice 1pc rods.

What Tuffy do you have? I had an Esox LTD and was able to modify the rod locker to get 9'3" rods in it.
