Hey everyone,

I am in the market for a new boat and the tuffy 1700 is right in my price range and I like the layout. What are your thoughts on this boat and what motor recomendations do you have?

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I have one rigged with a 90 OptiMax. Runs in the 40's loaded up, and fishes really well. It's a 17' boat, but handles big water with no issues. Big rod locker, I have 8.5' rods in the top rack. I have the Esox Deep V.

Do you think you could get a 9' rod in the 1760s top rack? I really like the 1760 and 1700, but I have a couple rods over 8'6" and I don't think they would even lay well on the sides with the gas tank cap there. Decisions.....Decisions.

8' is pretty much the max in my 2008 1760gt. Might fit an 8'6" in the top 2 center tubes. Rods fit along the sides extremely well. I have customs up to 9'8". Not sure how well you can lay rods along the side in the capped version though.

I have the Osprey 1760 and like it very much.

Fast, stable ride, handles big waves, good size casting deck, very smooth ride---Great for casting or trolling-

-Interior layout is amazing for Musky fishing---if you like to fish by yourself--you can take the passenger seat out---When the passenger seat is out--it is the best layout I have ever fished out of.

My guess is you will love the 1700--some pretty hard core guys use and love that boat. Prices used seem much better than similar Rangers etc...

Not that it matters--But the 1760 and 1700 are great looking boats in the water and on the trailer as well--not to mention running full out on plane!

The 1700 for sale on this site looks like a great deal if the motor compression checks out and there are no surprises---

-In my opinion after spending a lot of time boat shopping a couple years ago--you will not find a better Musky boat for 10k if that motor checks out.

Also that one will not last long!

I run a 2002 1700 Osprey with a converted back deck. Really like it. Had it in some pretty nasty stuff, solid, and totally controllable in rough seas. It's got a 70 Suzi 4 stroke on it, low 30's. I'd suggest at least a 115 4 stroke, or the 90 2 stroke. I wish I had a 135 Opti on mine though. That thing would scream with a 135!!!

I owned a 2004 Tuffy 1700 with a 90 e-tec and the boat fished great. I had an Alumacraft Navigator before that and ride/handling wasnt even close! I really loved the boat but for musky fishing i suggest getting an 05 or newer because Tuffy changed the layout to center rod lockers and 52" livewells. The locker systems in the 04 and older were kinda useless for musky rods as they had to be 7 ft or less and you could only fit 3 baitcasters or so in them. I highly recommend the boat though!

I can say great things about Tuffy boats. Any boat maker can say there new boat is good. My Tuffy Musky Rampage it more than 25 years old and is just a great boat. In fact a fellow i have known for about 4 years now and has a much newer and bigger boat of another brand. He did not even get his big new boat on the water last year. He fished out of my 25+ year old Tuffy a whole lot and he was just telling me today how he cannot wait to drive my Tuffy boat this spring. He is thinking about selling his big boat, I think a 2060 tiller is in his future The folks at Tuffy will steer you into the boat motor combo that be be the best fit and they even answer the phone when you call. Myself i would get whatever size MOTOR they recommend as long as it is a Merc.
