Despite the fact that Minnesota anglers are asking for larger pike, recent legislation forced the DNR to remove special regulations from numerous MN lakes. It also stops them from implementing any special pike regs on any other lakes. These regs were the only effective way of maintaining quality sized pike in our fisheries!
In order to put the new laws into effect, the DNR must take public input on the changes. Please note the DNR did NOT support these changes. We have the opportunity to provide input on these changes. Since these changes have been legislated it may not have any immediate effect but providing input will give the DNR a solid base of information when these issues come back up in the future. Our input could prove extemely valuable in changing, or reversing these decisions when the opportunity arises.
Below is a list of locations for the public input meetings, as well as the appropriate phone numbers for each office.
>Input can be given by phone or e-mail but must be sent by 4:30pm on Friday, Feb. 17.

These are the e-mail addresses for the offices concerned:
It's probably not a bad idea to e-mail Dirk Peterson, the Fisheries Chief as well.

Even if you don't fish these waters please take a few minutes to support this.

A simple solution would be to remove all "special" pike size regulations in MN and simply institute a statewide 30-40 inch protected slot. That would solve the problem with special regulations and it would be the same for everyone on all lakes. There would be so much less confusion. As for the darkhouse people, they always claim they only want to spear smaller eating size pike anyway.
