It's getting pretty warm again and my catch to sight ratio was pretty bad for the 1st part of the season....time to put the downriggers on the boat and try for the silver fish of the big pond. What water temp do you stop fishing for ski's?

Netman, I don't stop fishing for skis I will, however, take my wife out for various other species when she's had enough musky fishing for a while. I'll also rarely refuse an invitation to get deep into some back country chasing trout through pastures in Western Wisconsin or in the Northwoods.

Does anyone else's catch rate go way down when the water temp hits 80 degrees, though? I don't stop either, but seem to always catch about 1/5 the fish i caught a month earlier. What's the deal?

Oxygen levels relate to baitfish migration in the summertime. Some baitfish seek cooler water, so they migrate to the deep, while some others need the warmth and stay shallow. Some musky stay shallow and active in the weeds all summer long because the warmer water raises their metabolism, allowing them to digest faster and eat more often. I personally do better throughout the warm water periods, however, I won't ignore the great early season bite, nor June magic when everything seems to be working.

I usually stop fishing with 2 -3 foot temps of 80 down here. Just don't feel the stress on the fish is justifiable at that point. It's basically my off season until mid September, but I still end up fishing a 9 month season, so it's ok.
