well I don't use 6 inch jakes and bass gear while I am MUSKY fishing.

If you run with 50 pound test, I am sure you also have a to light of a leader as well....if you fish enough you will run into problems.

I use 80# powerpro or 80# cortland bronze, I like the powerpro more because it doesn't retain water as much as the cortland. I use small baits as others have noted above, even using 4 inch 1 1/2 oz rattle traps and having good results on them, I use 80# when I throw these baits and I haven't really noticed a difference in not being able to cast them because of the thickness of the line. IMO as long as your brake is set right you should be able to cast any bait with 80# braid. IMO there isn't really any such thing as overkill for muskies, I mean they don't call them tackle busters for nothing. I say use what works for you but I definetly agree that the shorter the fight the better chance they have of surviving the release.
