I have been seriously fishing muskies for 10 years. And have a place in minaki. I have never saw the water temps get to the 80 degrees mark like they have the past two years. Minaki is on the winnipeg River as most may know, so its always kinda had current. But the past few years there is barely any current due to low water levels on lotw. My question for those that have fished Canada for longer than I have. Do you remember sustained water temps near or above 80or is this a new thing due to rising temperatures?

I'm usually get up there at end of July/early August, and am used to arriving to water temps in the low-mid 70s. I heard there's been a fair bit of wind up there, which in theory should be keeping the temps down, especially near the basins.

We usually go up mid August. Been 15 years for me and the highest we've seen was 75, which was on a hot flat day in a shallow bay. Never seen anything close to 80.

We had a stretch a week ago that water temps where high 70's into the 80's. We had a massive cooldown that brought it back to earth. But looks like we will spike again soon. With constant plus 30 degree temps. Last year up here there was a week or two of unfishable water as well. Like I stated before water temps were something that I didn't even think about being too hot 5-10 years ago. In minaki with the current 70 was the norm. But this is two years in a row that I've saw unfishable water up here. Strange

Yup, last week with winds mid to upper 70s in spots that should have been high 60's at the most. Been a #*#* weather year. Front after front after front. I'd kill for 3 days of consistent weather. Even if it's nothing but rain.

Been going there for decades and don't believe I've seen 80.Of course early on we didn't have means readily available to know but doubt it ever was 80 when I've been there. For my friends there fishing has been great so I'd enjoy it.More and more it looks like I'll miss 2 yrs in a row.Sad for everyone, depressing for me at my age.

About 8 or 9 years ago the middle of July we were in an extended heat wave with no wind.  That Wednesday we hit 85 deg.  The evening a front came through with a big blow and temps went back to mid 70's.

If you're vacc'd fully should have a chance in a month or so I would think.

KingT, you must be just getting temp at very surface? Transducer depth it is probably mid 70s or lower. That's what it was in Keewatin area of Wpg R. for me.

I Have a ranger 620, transducer is on the bottom of transom, so yes somewhat close to the surface. And yes the temp went down because of the cooldown we had, but two weeks ago it was 80 or close too all over the minaki area. Actually had 82 In pistol where my cabin is. I network with two buddies of mine and we all had the same temp. Last year there was also a time on lotw that the water got too warm too fish. I'm pretty sure when people say it's too warm to muskie fish it's not the entire column that is 80 but the surface, and thats where you have to bring them to land them.

Must have got really calm and hot there then. Pistol is off current so could see a bit warmer in that shallow stretch going out into Little S but that is pretty extreme if 80s down a couple feet. Overall for sure everything getting warmer though and no rain and hot spell doesnt help.

Pretty cool website, this buoy is in the center of the manitou. Big open water buoy. As of 3 o'clock today it's over 78....after the next 5 days of blistering heat it will be over 80 again

Sorry that was the air temp. It does not look like it's registering water temp right now. It is pretty accurate tho. I've checked it for the last few years on the way to the lake and it's always pretty close

I've never seen 80 mid lake in Canada, though haven't been there in 2 seasons for some reason... With that being said, if you have only kept track for 10 years, that area and it's head waters which extends through the boundary waters, has seen an anomaly of higher and thusly cooler water begining in 2010 on and off through 2018. The deviation from norm in precip has been noteworthy all over the region, with summer lake levels setting records in many areas. I would say that this more recent 'dry' period more closely mirrors weather we had prior the period of reference. The fact that you've been seeing 80 degree main lake temps up there is interesting, as the Wisconsin River down here has only seen 2 days of documented 80 degree water so far this season(June 10/11). You guys must be getting all the heat this year!
