We all love our Muskies, but how much time do we fish for other fish and what are they?

I have a passion for musky but sometimes it's not in the cards. I invited friends and my friends wife was not technically proficient with the gear or patience to grind it out. So we changed species so everyone one could catch fish. Besides the southern opener can be a pain. On the Friday before the southern opener we used small jigging raps to catch 12 nice whitefish, Saturday we switched lakes and caught and released 10 bass, switched lakes again and caught 9 rainbow's for dinner.

I've two friends that will muskie fish with me and will occasionally want to go for smallmouth or walleye/hit the punchbowls that are the dams in the area. Usually I'll adjust to what they want to do, I do plenty of muskie fishing on my own and the variety is nice. I'd still say the balance is 90-10 - I do not fault others for not having the drive to pursue this species when so many others are readily available to be caught with far less effort.

Brook trout are my current addiction, although the gf convinced me to join the masses this weekend.

I mostly bass fish. Muskie fishing is my secondary target. A minimal amount of panfishing or walleye fishing every season.

Lake Sturgeon fight so hard. If they hit lures I probably wouldn't fish for anything else. Smallmouth are special too.

Give me the filth, the slop, the scum, hollowbody frogs, a Kayak and a paddle, and it's multispecies Heroin time baby! Largies, smallies,Pike,Bowfin,Musky, and in a rare occasion perch. Also like to explore water that's questionable if there's life once and awhile.

Being at the headwaters of the TVA system, we can fish stripers, hybrids, white bass, largemouth, smallmouth, walleye, crappie, and other panfish, tailwater trout on the fly, troll for browns and rainbows in the lakes, and hunting wild trout in the tiny creeks, where a nice pool is under a canopy of rhododendrons, and is the size of your end table..

"Holy run on sentence Batman", but yeah... we got almost all of it..the nearest musky water is a two hour drive tho..

Multi species I target:
Musky
Walleye
Pike
Bass
King Salmon
Brown trout/steelhead
Flathead
Channel
Sturgeon
Panfish

Ice fishing I target:
Musky
Pike
Walleye
Lake trout
Bass
Panfish

I spend a good amount of time when work allows as seasons turn I usually get on the best bites which are pre-post spawn for various species but I target musky and walleye year round in between all of it. Usually have 1-2 months off work when we actually have a cold winter to go ice fishing a bunch.
Nothing fights like a Big Lake Trout, King Salmon or Steelhead on a ML walleye rod! Very successful at every species I target. I fish solo a lot these days as my main fishing partner moved away 3 years ago and rest of my friends/family who fish are too busy usually so I really don't even bother to ask anymore I just go lol...

I’ll fish for trout in April it’s our opening. Then do some Muskie in between. In the hotter days mostly summer I’ll change and go for cats and carp. Then in oct I used to go for the steelhead and salmon runs. Not so much now.

Walleyes, bass, and pike on light tackle, but crappie are my main target when not fishing muskies.

Both my grandparents had Lake front homes. My mom's side of the family sold it in the 1940's when they left Minnesota and my dad's side a after my grandpa died grandma moved intro town. I fished this all summer during my high school days.
I caught Muskies, Pike, Walleye, Both kinds of Bass, Perch, and Crappie.
Growing up in California I caught ocean fish in the surf and off the rocks, Party boat fishing in the ocean sucked, and caught Trout and Spotted Bass in fresh water and found a secret Bass and Bluegill pond where I caught fish out of a blow up boat.
Dad and I both had boats at one time and we caught Walleyes, Smallmouths, Perch, Bluegills, trout and Carp in the front range Lakes, Tiger Muskie, Large Pike, and Trout in the mountain Lakes. When I get back to Minnesota I fish Muskies for the most part and do a half day to catch Walleye for dinner, and catch Perch off the dock.
When I going to Wisconsin it's late fall muskies and when I get back there it's guided trips or fishing out of rental boats.
All our boats and tow vehicle are long gone. A couple times we took trips (one Wisconsin, one Minnesota) after the opener but before the summer crush. These trips are the best! Catching everything under the sun on light tackle.
