More quality issues. Bought two new TR’a and fished both this week. Hooked a fish on the first, and it split at the seam due to head shakes. The second one lost half its paint within a few hours. Cheap paint over top of a previous finish.

I’ve stopped using them because of similar issues. It’s a shame because I love the way they run.

new topraiders are broken more than not out of the package. I completely stopped trying after 3 in a row had issues.

Wondering, has anyone tried contacting JBO about the issues?

I just bought a new Depth Raider. Would not run straight at all. Just would run hard left coming in, almost sideways......but after a few casts, trying to adjust, I caught a 40"er. So now what, bring it back to Fleet Farm or keep it and see if it can catch more. It was the only lure that I actually caught a muskie on on a recent trip??

I have sent a couple emails with no response. I tried to ask joe himself at the musky show but all I got was a quick I haven't heard that and the a prompt distraction.

Scour eBay. I was lucky enough to find one of the old ones with the tail rattle. Hooks are better on the news ones, but that's all.

The new hooks are not better. They come sharper when new but they are made out of a very brittle metal. I've had a total of three break off at the bend. All from fish, not unhooking.

That's no good. They looked beefier than the old hooks, but I guess the proof is in the pudding.

Oh, and after some digging it turns out my topraider should NOT be rattling lol. The weight came loose after one fish?

I guess the Bucher stuff is lacking a bit in the QC department?

Depth Raider are one of my 3 go to esox baits (big pike, tigers and purebreds). However after a few fish when using the silver or chrome ones lose there paint way to quick.

Keep using it. Not unusual at all for a crankbait to be out of tune when new or after a fish. In fact, several of my best cranks, are those that took alot of adjustment to bring true. These lures can be money as they will often wander/back to true, even on the cast. Go catch some more on it.

JBO Products have gone down hill for years now. I was up in Northern WI week after the Musky opener. Stopped by the Musky shop and picked up a few new lures which one of them was jointed shallow raider.. The very next day I got snagged and the lure broke off at the joint. I took it back to the Musky shop and exchanged it for a shallow swimming dawg... worked a lot better.. I now have only one JBO product in my boat and that is the old Bucher Tail original bucktail..

An update on this. I sent emails as was suggested above (thank you) to both to JBO and to Musky Shop letting them know of the QC issues. They both offered to replace the baits. JBO has a process where they provide reimbursed exchanges through their retailers. They also sent pictures into their production team.

It was nice to see their response, and interest in doing the right thing.
