Thinking about adding a kicker motor to my 98' 692. Wondering what all setups/mounts you guys are using? I'm thinking I'd like to have it tie into the main motor steering but just looking for ideas and whether I want to tackle it myself or take it someplace. Any pics would be great. Thanks!

i have a '94 60 and originally it was rigged with a 2-stroke tiller kicker and i rigged an oiler and tied it to the main motor. that was fine for when i used it for emergencies and just on occasion.

i troll a lot now, but for salmon on lake michigan and superior so a couple things are important to me 1. quiet/no-smoke and 2. control at the helm and mostly 3. power tilt and trim.

almost all of the kickers are Tohatsu's with a brand label and I believe yamaha makes their own. mine is a 4-stroke evinrude/tohatsu tied in to both fuel tank and steering and the controls are mounted on the captain's seat base low and to the left. it's a nice set-up for big water trolling.

if you are precision trolling you may want to consider a tiller ...

I don't consider much I do precision, that sounds like about what I'm looking for. What size Tohatsu do you run? How do you have it mounted to the transom? I've looked at the Panthers but not sure which one.

evirude etec 15 has a tilt/trim system built right in. mine is a tiller and switch is right on the handle
it is mounted on my 620 using a Bob's Machine Shop mount. I see you want to operate from console I am suret that can be set up as well Frankies Marine did mine

9.9 4-stroke and sips fuel. i can spend a 10 hour day on Lake Michigan driving out to 300' on a Pro-XS and troll all day on 5 gallons of fuel. mine is transom mounted and works great. no need for any offset plates. i keep the tie rod connected and it doesn't hit the main motor. no way i would ever consider running a 2-stroke kicker for as much as i troll. no smoke, quiet and smooth able to move the boat about 5mph ... quick start, easy operation and power tilt is fantastic.

Thanks for the info I found a used 2015 four stroke yammy that might fit the bill. What side of the boat do you have yours mounted on?

That was my line of thinking as well, but I've seen quite a few the other way.

I have a 94 692 Ranger with a Yamaha 9.9 hp 4 stroke kicker with a rod attached to the main motor and controls at the helm
works great for trolling.
