I just ordered a Helix 7 SI G2 and see that there is the transducer exchange program on the humminbird website to get the upgraded transducer. Has anyone done this and is it that much better for the $85 extra?

Started with the compact transducer on my Helix 9 for a season, then bought the HDSI last year. Night and day difference. It would definitely be worth the $85 from the start.

Such crap that they even give you the cheap transducer in the first place. Thanks for the help.

What’s the difference upgrading to the HDSI?

The HDSI gives you both 800 and 455 frequencies for your side imaging. The compact SI transducer only has the 455 frequency. The higher the frequency, the better the definition of picture I believe. The new Mega Imaging unites are just another step up from 800 kHz to 1.2 MHz I think.

I upgraded but 800hz is useless on the 899 units anyways.
400 works way better.

Without a Doubt worth it....But it's $75..Unless humminbird recently raised the $ Only 10"s & 12"s come with the the hd transducer.

I'ts all about the mighty dollar>>>BULL S*** but like i said worth it...

I'm considering upgrading the transducer on mine as well, but according to the FAQ the HELIX 7 SI GPS does not support 800 kHz frequencies but it says you can see the enhanced performance from the 455 kHz element. So I don't think upgrading the transducer to the HD model will give you HD capability you get with the HELIX 10 and HDSI. It will be better, but not 800 kHz better.

That’s what I gathered as well. I did make the exchange but haven’t installed it yet.
