Posts: 568 Location: Lake St Clair | Im sure its been asked a bunch but i just want to be certain. Im installing an Helix 10 SI. Im placing the stern saver over where the previous transducer was installed, does this look correct? ive matched it up with pictures online im just a little nervous still its on a 2013 Alumacraft competitor 185 Attachments ---------------- 1.jpg (42KB - 317 downloads) 2.jpg (40KB - 319 downloads)

Posts: 304 Location: Lino Lakes, MN | I followed my instructions with the unit and had good results. It was a 998 w/SI Tips, read the instructions make sure that the transducer is centered between the rows of rivets(on the bottom of the boat). You want a smooth surface in front of the transducer. The instructions may say a distance to the side of the motor-mine was 15". The SI transducer has changed from my unit. I think that it should be mounted above the bottom of the boat to protect it from striking obstructions or drag at high speed. Consider a High Speed trandsducer with the y cable- this will give you good 2D readings. Consider a mounting plate for your transducers-less holes in the hull. Good Luck Great units Edited by Sorgy 4/20/2018 10:09 AM

Posts: 546 Location: MN | As has already been mentioned, you should install a hi-speed skimmer transducer and Y-cable. The y-cable joins the two signals of the 2D and SI/DI transducers to a single plug into the HELIX unit. You'll maintain good depth readings on plane with the skimmer, whereas the big SI transducer loses contact with the bottom at high speeds because it displaces more water and creates an air pocket under the transducer while on plane. Also, you will be able to mount your SI/DI transducer higher up, less likely to hit obstructions under the boat. The big transducer will only need to be in good contact with the water at speeds of less than 8mph, when you use SI/DI. Take a look at the the diagram. The two items are at most $100 total to do it right and do it once. Edited by mtcook16 4/20/2018 11:14 AM Attachments ---------------- 9 M SIDB Y configuration.png (110KB - 293 downloads)

Posts: 426 | A mounting plate is a great idea on any boat. With one on your boat you don't need to worry about making a mistake on transducer placement being off and needing to patch holes because of it and they are cheep insurance. Edited by 7ovr50 4/21/2018 7:26 AM
