Posts: 283 | What’s your favorite buck tail hook? Brand and size. I plan on running one hook on double 8’s and two hooks on double 9’s &10’s.

3551 also, but i know way better one from owner .i still using them more by habit than for performance .owner st-36 3/0 are as wide as 7/0 3551 but they don't rust,no need to be sharpened, only cons is the price

Posts: 1080 Location: Aurora | I prefer Si-wash hooks with an offset bend in um. 7/0's for 9's and up, 5/0's for 8's with 4/0's for smaller. One in front hanging from a clevis with a split ring back up and one out back, regardless of size.

Posts: 1080 Location: Aurora | supertrollr - 3/9/2018 9:08 PM side did you think you have lost fish due to the single hook ? A lot less in my experience. Once drilled with a single, they're done.

yeah, that what i have seen when i was making mine like that, when they are hooked it's solid but i feel i have lost fish due to the single, but we never know for sure if it's siwash fault.many saltwater guys are even put single on cranks, for unknown reason it's not that popular for musky lure

Posts: 1208 Location: E. Tenn | I've wondered if sometimes a fish will chomp the bait, and turn the hook "sideways" in such a manner to where it has no upper jaw, lower jaw, or lip to sink the barb into..

Posts: 1348 Location: Pewaukee, WI | Think Geo. Wahl's Eagle tail for single 7'0s. Look at how many giants were nailed with that bait! If you are concerned with fish getting off simply take a pliers and create an off-set hook by slightly bending the bend in the hook out of line with the shaft of the hook.
