Like you already mentioned I believe they make Mercury motors in that size class so if you have a good dealer and can get a good deal I’d say go for it.

I have a 40 on a pontoon and a 50 on a tiller musky boat. Bought new in 2011 not so much as a hic-up. Both the fuel injected models, love 'em.

A lot of people run them on duck boats and skiffs down south and the general consensus is that they can take a really good beating!! They do manufacture the smaller merc outboards and the parts are pretty much universal. I would not shy away from one if I had a merc/tohatsu dealer in my area. I know online outboards sells them as well with free shipping.

Does anyone know if these will take Merc kicker props?

That 8HP is looking pretty sweet for my 17ft Starcraft.

I assume you could connect it to the steering for the big motor as well?

Last question, think the electric start is worth the extra $400? I figure you're going to be back there lowering it in the water anyways.

They make a GREAT motor with a super 5 year warrantee .I have been running a Tohasu 6hp 4 stroke kicker motor for walleye trolling for 3 years now which I bought new with less than 10 hours from a guy going through a divorce for $700 .... smooth as snot on a door knob as compared to my former Johnson twin cylinder 2 stroke 9.9hp...no smelling of 2 stroke fumes on a downwind trolling track. Based on my 6 hp Tohastu, I plan on buying a Tohastu 4 stroke 3 cylinder 50 or 60hp fuel injected motor which are on sale now at a nearby dealer for $5495 -$6000 including controls and installation less prop. The closest 4 stroke in its horsepower class will run you close and over $7000. I am running a 2 stroke oil injected 55hp Suzuki 3 cylinder DT55 and it runs super great as it weighs in weighs at 233 pounds and both Tohatsus are within 10 pounds of my 2 stroke Suzuki. 209 pounds for the 50hp and 243 for the 60hp.
