I'm somewhat hi-jacking the thread to ask about the toro revo s60. I found them for 180. Am I wrong thinking they would be fine all around entry level reel? I just need to pull the trigger, and so the want to fork out 300 for a beast or tranx or 400d

That is a nice price. The best I have seen is on Amazon for about $ 197.00

Yes, very nice entry level reel.

Make sure it says 60, not 50. Just a heads up.

Defiantly get the S60 if your looking for a good all around reel. I was looking into them until I found a nacl on eBay. Before I found the nacl I was planning on getting the S60. It's a solid reel and is very comfortable.

Pretty sure the beast 50 hs have 31 ipt.

never thought of looking at the 50's. are the gears the same size between 50's and 60's? i thought they were like 300's vs 400's

I think the only difference is actually spool size which creates the IPT difference.. but I'm not sure I'll look at my hs50 gear box compared to that of my hs60.

That is correct. Those gears also fit in the S and vice-versa. Source (post 12):

Mornin' guys. An answer from Abu about the interchangeability of gears:

"Yes the gear sets in the 50 and 60 are the same. The gear sets are also interchangeable between S and the Beast. We will offer this as a service to change the gear sets in spirit lake, for a new gear set. Consumers will also be able to change them out themselves if they feel confident they can do it."

The bodies of the 50 and 60 sizes are not precisely the same size (the body height is grown in the 60 to accommodate a taller spool) but this does not affect the interchangeability of the gears.

Great utility reel. Pull the trigger.

Dude buy the S and spend more $$$ on your rod. I would not get a 2 piece rod though... My rod locker only fits 6' rods too but that's what rod straps are for.

Not really looking for a high speed reel right now, if I was I would probably just bit the bullet and get the tranx. Just need a quality reel to start out with that can handle mag dawgs, big blades, but also be able to move small buck tails fairly fast.

The HS beast 60 only does 34ipt, slow by most other HS standards.

The Beast comes with a long arm power handle, attach that to the reel and you won't even notice that you are cranking a HS reel. At 34ipt, you have a moderate speed reel that can handle nearly any application the reel might get tasked with.

BTW, the Komodo 471 would be a better option then a Tranx 500 if you want speed and power.
