I have a 20' fiberglass tiller. I currently have the Ulterra mounted up front. My previous boats I had cable foot pedals for steering. I'm having a hard time adjusting to the remote or the foot pedal on the Ulterra for steering. Seems slow and I don't like messing with the remote.

Does it sound crazy to want to dump the Ulterra? The motor has been flawless and works great. I'm leaning towards casting more this year for Muskie, Pike and Bass and am yearning for the old days of my foot pedal.

Am I crazy?

Opinions?

Thank you.

I don't think you're crazy. I personally like the feel of a cable troller.
But that spot/anchor lock feature is awful enticing.

Why not get an Ultrex? Cable steer plus spotlock.

The motorguide Xi5 turns faster and quiter than the minnkota. But the pedal is just as dumb as the terrova/power drive/ulterra.

I'm pretty sure the minnkota ultrex is faster turning than the xi5, spot lock, other features and a conventional foot pedal cable steering! Best tm ever.

I've been quoted about $2,500 for a 80lb with link & bluetooth. That sound about right?

go on trolling motors.com and check them out. free shipping and the best prices. BUT i bought mine from the local dealer/repair center, for a little more $ but if something goes wrong you move to the front of the line for repairs. one whole season last year at 5 days /wk from march through october and NO problems. its a fantastic motor IMO.
