I know this isn't muskie related and will delete if not appropriate for this forum, but I am looking for a baitcasting reel for pike and largemouth bass. I would fish muskie everyday if I could, but the closest muskie waters are 45 minutes away. I have a few lakes I like where I catch a lot of 30"+ pike and 20+ bass and I've ruined two cheaper spinning reels from reeling in 11# pike. I like the medium-heavy rod, wondering what a few good options for bait casting reels would be without slapping one of my big muskie reels on a smaller lighter rod.

Thank you

Big fan of my Revo S (not Toro) for smaller pike lures. Has plenty of power IMO as well. You can find it on sale most places.

Looks a little big, I was thinking something lower profile. Is the 200b more low proflie?

Yeah, I use the smaller Abu Garcia Revo S (once again, not Toro S). When I bought it I think it was around $130 dollars but you can get it much cheaper now. Its really good for throwing bass sized spinner baits, spoons, husky jerks, etc...I have even thrown 6 inch phantoms with it and it works well. I would probably not want to venture throwing anything above about 3-4 ounces with it though simply because thats not its intended use. But yes, love the reel. Favorite bass sized low profile reel i have used.

Lews makes a decent reel. I've used one for 2 years now for bass and Pike. My favorite is the Revo. I've caught small muskie(up to 36") and numerous pike:bass. I don't see much difference between those options.

I also like the Abu Gracia Revo s. It's good solid reel. Good all around reel. If you look around on the internet you can find them marked down or on sale. I have a Abu Garcia nacl 50 hs on my g Loomis e6x heavy. I really like that setup for small baits.

I have 20# pp on mine. And I can't remember how many yards I got on it. I have been switching all my reels over to tuf-line xp. They make a 25# that has the same dia as 20# which is equivalent to 6# mono. According to abu you should get 170-180 yds of line on it.

curado 200 with a st croix mojo bass 7'10" or 7'11"

travel setup would be a 8-8'6" two piece salmon rod (st croix). Again, curado 200

Get a Lews super duty wide spool and be done the reel is awesome it's small enough yet holds plenty of line. I use mine from throwing hollow body frogs for bass to double 8 buck tails. You won't be disappointed in the Lews super duty wide spool.

Great all around bass/ pike reel. Internal and magnetic brakes. Works for cranks, spinnernaits, and pike up to 36 inches. The brakes are great for flipping.

Abu Garcia Revo STX has been awesome for me. I put 40lb Suffix 832 on it with a medium heavy rod when I go to Canada and it throws everything up to about an ounce great. I have an SX also with 30lb 832 for big bass and the occcasional pike. For heavier stuff 1-4oz. the size 50 nacl has been awesome.

Not to make ur thread more confusing, but also take a look at the revo winch. A little larger than the s with a larger line capacity and a larger drag rating. Handles bigger pike type baits really well with its 5.4 to 1 gear ratio and drags those hawg bass out of heavy cover too! Kdawg

Shimano Curado 300/301, Which I believe is now discontinued, should be a good choice. Might be able to pick one up at a decent price. I've had one for some time now, no problems...DaveMP

Thanks for the help guys. I went with the abu revo s and put it on a fenwick hmg 7' mh rod, wanted the st. Croix bass x 7'4" mh but they didn't have it. I also got a st. Croix mojo bass that was $60 off that I couldn't pass up. Its the 7'8" mh big crankster glass rod and almost feels like a muskie rod. Do I pair the revo s with this, or get a new reel for the mojo? I'd like the mojo to be my tiger muskie rod and shoepack strain muskie rod, and the other rod to be bass/pike rod. I can't really make up my mind, leaning towards returning the fenwick and ordering the 7'4"rod. I catch 2-4 lb bass most frequently and 30"+ pike if that helps.

I love the older Shimano Curado 201’s - they are classics - really great reels that last forever. Can get used ones on EBay for about $50. I hear the newer Curados are not as good and way more expensive.
