Posts: 253 | Im thinking of replacing my current line, 100lb power pro, with 130lb cortlamd master braid. This will go on my 2 pounder setup Anyone have an opinion on this line? I do know that the 80 and 100lb masterbraid have a good reputation on this forum

Location: Contrarian Island | 130 is pretty thick stuff, I use it on my sucker reels... 100 lb masterbraid would be plenty imo.

Posts: 1082 Location: Hayward, WI | I got my hands on some 130 Jerry Brown Line One braid. I normally use Master Braid, but so far the JB line has been great. The line handles line Master Braid, but has a smaller diameter.

Posts: 253 | Would the thickness of the line have a noticable effect on casting distance, considering that only 20oz + lures will be used?

Posts: 1100 | Have you had break offs casting sins your looking to upgrade your line? I use 100Lb Tuf XP for super large rubber.

Posts: 1901 Location: MN | 80# Masterbraid is like most others 100, 100# MB is light rope, and 130# is heavy rope, and overkill in my opinion

Posts: 2687 Location: Hayward, WI | A switch to 100lb Masterbraid might be all you need to do. Power Pro is the only musky line I've broken and I've talked to others that say the same thing. Been a while since I used Power Pro, but Never had a problem with Masterbraid (I have cut it on some rocks but I don't think any braid will stand up to certain jagged shield rocks).

Posts: 4053 Location: Land of the Musky | I have both 100# and 130#. Like both. Nice thing about Cotrland 100# vs Power Pro is that it seems I can get a birdsnest out of the Cortland line a lot faster. The Power Pro digs in a little more... Both are good lines though IMO.

Posts: 253 | Would you consider the 130lb masterbraid to be too thick to be used on a casting setup? The rod i am using is a ti xxxh, the reel is a toro beast 61, and the smallest lure that will be used will be a 23 ounce mammoth curly sue.
