Posts: 3472 Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hi Everyone, After a couple of years of neglect and years of use, my rig needed some work to bring it back to something I am happier to be running. I found that the plastic portion of my console looked the worst after I had gone through cleaning up the scratches and scuffs on the paint, restoring it to the best it can be save rock chips. The plastic had me worried, though. I figured I'd be tearing apart the console and repainting, but after doing some research I found something that was inexpensive and has done a fabulous job at this point. A bit of time in the sun will determine whether or not this method is viable for long term or not, so I will report back toward the end of the year. Before pictures: you can see the fading and discoloration of the console. In the second two pictures, I had thoroughly washed down the console, then wiped it down with denatured alcohol to clear off any possible residue. I then used a combination of paint thinner and boiled linseed oil in a 50/50 mixture. I put it on a rag and wiped down the console, then let it sit for a few minutes before wiping off the excess. I feel it did a really good job of restoring color. The black smudge you see on the front portion of the console is where my fishing rods sit, so that is just a worn spot.
