Location: Mallard Island Lake Vermilion MN | STWW awareness!
So I Slipped on gunnel getting in boat during powerful rain one day after getting my guest for the morning all good to go in his seat.
Landed on bow flat on my butt / back, head smacking the bow floor. Made me a bit more goofy than I regularly am, if only for a minute.
SPLAT!
Old dude I was guiding just sat in his boat seat an laughed, laughed and laughed.
No effort to break my fall or anything like that, no way.
As I was getting up I checked myself an found I was good to go. Rain, rain, rain.
Old boy stops laughing few minutes later and says : "Hell Tommy boy, I though you knew how to get in yer own boat there buddy. And all these times you have taken me fishen I never knew you was religious?"
"What makes you say that old boy" I retort all while starting the boat and dealing with the Rain, rain, rain.
"Well after you got yourself up off the bow floor, you crossed yer right hand over yer chest an also roof to cellar like you was doing a Hail Mary" he spits out.
"Oh well that, that there LiL check has two purposes ya know sir. That was not a just a unconscious Hail Mary ya know, no no, much much more" I says.
"Well what the hell was it then? Sure looked like Hail Mary to me boy" he blurts while sucking in more Rain, rain, rain. Deep belly laughing at my expense.
I laid it down to him as a STWW. "That was indeed a check alright, mini Hail Mary for sure but also quick touch for my Specks, Testicals, Wallet & Watch if you must know ya old fart" ~~~ "To see, feel if I still had everything intact and nothing broken"
So he busts a gut laughing at my answer an starts a coughing an spitting up an slapping his feet on the boat floor. I thought he was gonna crook out on me right then an there. Thankfully he didn't.
I got one on him but good.
Old fart, laugh at me will ya.
So we went about our biz in the Rain, rain, rain, a few hours.
Him again busting into laugher at my expense a number of times until we called it a Done n Done deal bout noon just in time for him to buy me lunch at the stupid casino buffet.
No fish caught but good time together in the Rain, rain, rain........our 12th time / year fishing together.
Who would have guessed a 92 year old fart and myself at 55 would connect and brother up tight like we did all those years.
He has passed on now but I remember him fondly and our every outing. Find myself laughing out loud often when thinking of he and I in my boat an all junk we talked about an did out on the water just a fish'n an being us. Guess we kind of grew on each other and for what ever reason, it worked.
Good times, unforgettable times.
And that special ONE time I got him but good. Really good. Rain, rain, rain.
Anyway.........always remember to do a STWW if ya take a hard fall and maybe this lil story will make yer day a bit brighter, bit better in some way and ad a BIG smile to your face.
