I've mostly been a lake fisherman but this year I've been spending a lot of time on the st. croix (walleye fishing.  must be going crazy).  I've got a bunch of 4 day weekends coming up and I'd like target some muskies but I'm a little lost on where to start for October patterns in a larger river.  Any tips on how to break down river systems as the water is cooling?  depths or types of structure to focus on?

Look for weed beds in river...fish front and back of island points...find rocky structures fish them find flats that have drop offs near by and fish them...also find breaks and turns in the river and fish slack water on back of turns in river as well..this should give you lots to look for on the river
