Be careful about where you stay...especially in Superior and anywhere on the hillside or in West Duluth. Lots of shady characters in these parts...especially around the "affordable" hotels.

Barkers islands is a safe place in superior, a bit more expensive, but safe and there is a boat launch next door.

Good Luck,

Willard Munger inn in canal park Duluth I think you will have a liking for,,,reasonable has a big vacant lot next to it with plugins-'bring an extension" just minutes from the boy scout landing, good breakfast bar included in price in mourning with a great waffle maker,,,even has complimentary Bikes if you want to take an evening bike ride, very popular place google reviews ,no shady characters except when were there.

No such place as Willar Munger Inn in Canal Park...it's out in West Duluth, and yes, there are a lot of shady characters in that area.

I live in Duluth and work at the district courthouse and wouldn't keep a boat parked outside anywhere in downtown (including the Sheraton), the hillside, or in West Duluth unless you can have it locked up in a garage. I'd stay in Canal Park (fairly heavily patrolled by the cops), up by the mall, on top of the hill up by Spirit Mountain, or the Edgewater Hotel on London Rd. I don't know where I'd stay in Superior other than Barkers. If you like camping, camp at Jay Cooke and take the short drive in the morning. Not sure if they have plug-ins at Jay Cooke, though.

Hooker, if you like the Munger Inn and haven't had any problems then go for it, just giving the guy my honest opinion based on living here for 8 years and working in the court system for 3.

The Munger inn area, is actually, unfortunately in a shady area. The vandalism in those parts is ridiculous. I used to love putting in at the accesses in the south duluth region and I have never seen so much idiocy as I have this year. There has always been broken glass in the access lots over the years but it has been taken to a new level. Just last week while pre fishing the PMTT, we pulled into the clyde launch, only to see 6 piles of glass in the lot and a rig with a trailer parked with its' passenger window smashed out. We talked to the officer on the scene and he told us the characters are working mid day, and that it wouldn't be such a bad thing if we spent a few minutes alone with the dopes if we caught them, before calling authorities.

When in Superior, we stay at the Bay Motel just off 53 by Perkins, and not far from Barkers island launch which is very nice and safe. Samll, old, with few amenities, but is cheap and fairly well kept by the lady(Dee Dee). We do still keep goods locked up when there.

That said, that is one of the worst parts about the area. Not much for affordable lodging close to decent accesses. Well, maybe it isn't so bad for us...

Thanks for the options. Also how is the super 8 east of town south allouz bay. Is it safe to leave boat in parking lot or is it a sketchy area over there. If i stay at bakers island is there a spot you would be able to plug the trolling batterys in to charge.

I wouldn't leave a boat out in Allouze. A friend of mine lives there and the trailer park trash stole his dirt bike from his garage and wrecked it. In Superior I would only stay at Barkers if you're planning on leaving your boat outside.

The Clyde Ave launch has had a lot of break-ins this year. I've also heard there have been a few at the Oliver launch, but that launch sucks to begin with.

I live near Barkers and while it's a nicer part of town, but there is still a rash of garage break-ins and things like that every year. Lock everything possible, and what you can't lock, bring inside.

Ive used billings park launch and left everything in my car no problems.

When we were up pre-fishing and during the PMTT we stayed at a place called Sleepy Hollow it was south of Superior about 10 miles. The place is small and was just redone. The rates were cheap $60 per nite and it was clean. We kept our rig about 50 feet from our room. It was far enough out of town that we did not worry about anything. You can find them on the web by doing a search for Sleepy Hollow Superior.
Also when we fished we used the Loon Foot landing on the south end of Superior bay and the Barker Island launch with no problems. By the way they are scraping out a coal dock at Loons Foot so people are working right next to the launch.

Black Bear Casino. They've got security guards out there 24/7. Very cheap as well.

May I suggest fishing where you don't have to worry? Why is this area suddenly a destination? I heard someone just caught a big fish in Texas...not sure of the lake.

If you go to the anchor, it does have great food but don't expect good service, just the way it is and always will be there. Cheap and good though!

Black bear is cheap if you go during the week but like most places they jack up the rates on the weekends. I can't think of many good places to stay while in Duluth with a boat, I'd either stay in the east end or up on the hill, but like others have said stay away from canal and west end.
