Posts: 596 Location: Duluth | Guys I've been hearing rumors of walleye being t-boned by big girls out on the reefs. I know that they have been stocking the Bay with GL strain since 2014 and also figured there was a decent migration from the fish that have been stocked in GB. Thinking about making this my spot for opener in 2018. Confirmation of rumors or even more rumors would help...dont need much of a nudge to chase GL strain but just need a little confirmation. Thanks, CincySkeez

Posts: 668 Location: mercer wi | Not trying to be a downer but how do you know that video was on lbdn. I talked to a couple buddies up there and only muskies they've come across were mid 20". They guide and on water everyday walleye fishing. And it wasn't numbers they were seeing. Less then a dozen in 4 years. Just don't want to see you spend bunch off money and time of nothing.

Posts: 668 Location: mercer wi | I understand they planted 5000 fingerings. Again I'm not saying there isn't any musky but like the article said as well shold be 20" or so by now. I just don't think it's a real fishable population yet.

Posts: 596 Location: Duluth | Yea, not expecting it to be like Green Bay, but that's really not that far for the fish to swim. Think Bondy posted something on here about a fish that was tagged in the Detroit River and then pinged again in Niagara River. Also have fished most of the rivers that dump into GB/Lake michigan in the UP and northern WI, almost all of them have low density fisheries. Just figured it was almost time for Little Bay to be a viable fishery. Also not that far of a trip for me to make I'm in the Western UP for large chunks of the year.

Posts: 718 | That was true about that tagged fish. It went from the upper Detroit to Buffalo and was back in Mich waters by Jan. As for the Noc lots of nice pike in there. I spent about 10 days there once and every deep weed edge had some pike on it.

Posts: 596 Location: Duluth | Saw another study released last week that would support the thought that muskies are for more mobile than we previously thought. Can't wait to hit the Bay

Cincy, take along some walleye equipment and baits. After you have banged your head on a wall for a few days, catch some nice eyes. I lived in the U.P. for 20 years, had a neighbor that grew up on the shores of Bay, and now in retirement lives there again. Knew a lot of guys who spent weekends on the bay for walleyes and never heard one say anything about musky. Pike yes, but not musky. I fished the Portage Canal by the Keweenaw and there are big pike in there very capable of swallowing all but the biggest walleye. Had a co-worker bet a relative that he could catch a pike over 40" within two hours of fishing on the canal and won the bet, but again no musky. There may be a few muskies there but few is the operative term. And it is a lot of water to strain.
