Hi guys I am looking at a new rig and the dealer mainly does hummingbird, he has rec helix 9 or 10 on console and helix 7 on bow, am doing Minolta 112 terrova on bow with pilot sonar etc,,. I am some what confused of helix vs onix, did some preliminary research and appears helix I'd better from technical aspects than helix even though it's a year older.Any advice / real life and xperience appreciated. The Onix is considerably more expensive, would be getting how and SI on whatever I choose. Thanks !

The 7 can't be networked. If you put that on the bow, you would not be able to link it to your 9 or 10 on the console.

Not sure if you can link onix to helix. Just that the helix
7 can't be networked.
If money is not an object, the onix is probably much better.

I did some of the same research earlier this year. 14ledo81 is correct - the helix 7 can't be networked to the Helix 9 or 10. The helix 9 is the starting point there.
The helix and onix are network compatible according to this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xf4xpFtwOAs
I watched a lot of Doug's videos, he really seems to know his stuff and it is a heck of a lot easier then navigating / locating similar information on Humminbird's website. I have played around with both models at Cabela's, but haven't used them on the water, so I don't have a ton to go on. I opted to get to helix 9s for my new boat. The money I saved there was reinvested into map chips and auto chart live.

From what I gather about this is; The helix 9, 10, & 12 are the replacements for the 1100, 900, 800, series and just as capable, if not more so. You can network them and share gps info and transducer info between units, and also display engine info on the NMEA network if you have a compatable engine. I believe the onix has a little more capability to share mapping info. The smaller helix units ( 5 & 7) are more a replacement for the smaller units (500 & 700 series).
