Cool. I enjoyed the Almanac Bill and Larry Ramsell did years ago. It's fun to blow the dust off the old copy once in a while. Things have changed A LOT in 30 years.

LOL! I fished with Larry a few days for the book. He hasn't changed a bit - he's still crazy about these critters!

How do we get our paws on a signed copy? Or... is Mr. Worrall cooking up a contest to win a copy? Hint, hint.

It is a wonderful read...I had the pleasure of proof reading it for historical accuracy. It was patterned after Bill Gardner's great book, "Time on the Water", probably the most popular muskie book ever written. Here is a similar book with a few giant muskies to boot!

As an aside, my return to the "Bay" with Bill this summer once again convinced me that Georgian Bay is indeed "The Last Frontier" for muskies...who knows what evil lurks there!

Sounds very interesting and the fact that the author was concerned about the ethics of responding on this site tells me a lot about his character.

Can we revisit the "heads I win/tails I win" netting debate while we have both of the esteemed authors in our midst?

Flambeauski: Bill and I did 5 years of "Musky Hunter's Almanac"(s). Was sad when they ended.

North of 8: I know of no one in the muskie world with better ethics than Bill Hamblin!

Flambeauski: I'm still netting them by the head!!

Thank you friend.

By the way - some things have changed in thirty years. The nets are bigger - given my druthers I now net from under "belly to the bottom" to use Dadson terminology.
That said - I have done a lot of fishing on my own and had the good fortune to net a few dandies by myself. On this point I had to defer to Larry's position and go head first - very carefully.

Bill, I'm really looking forward to reading my copy. I think its going to be a great addition to my library...which includes.

The Old Man and the Sea
Time on the Water
Muskies on the Shield
Musky Strategy

Some folks here think I'm crazy. Maybe I am, but your website bio text below sold me. The first book above is fiction, I love the part where he's cutting up the bait fish with one hand so he can eat it, while holding fast to the line with the "fish" using the other. Its a great story. But the others are real stories, Bill's pursuit of catching a muskie, Dick sleeping in the boat on the spot, so he could wake up and take a few casts. Tom enduring brutal hours in late fall pursuing them in his row troller, Tom's hands tell a story by themselves. They all get a new read every winter, each time I find new tidbit's and some small sense that I'm not really crazy, because if I am, I'm in a club...chasing what Dick calls supertankers. Yes, I blame Dick for making me rethink why I was fishing for numbers, when what I really wanted was a goal that would seem impossible to most. In 2015 I didn't put a muskie in the net. But, I lost a few that meet my definition of big fish, and one that would qualify as the "Holy Grail". The quest continues...........in 2016, if God Blesses me with continued good health.

"I take the risk of limiting myself to just these waters because it's not a numbers game. It is not uncommon to go for long stretches without seeing a fish let alone catching one. But I’m a quality over quantity guy. I’d rather be on big fish water and fight through the droughts than catch a lot of smaller fish and be denied the prospect of encountering the Holy Grail!"

Have fun!
Al

Thanks Bill and Larry for your work, and your posts here. I'm looking forward to another great read while we wait a bit for soft water....and more adventures. I'll be picking up a copy at the Chicago Show.

Bill will be at the Chicago Muskie Expo in Johnny Dadson's booth so you can pick up a personally signed copy directly from the author.

I picked up a copy of his book from Bill this weekend. I am well over halfway through it. I kind of don't want it to end. Are there any other books written about musky Fishing in a similar style to this?

got it, read it, loved it...... the only thing missing was a map showing his overall travel pattern. Not knowing GB it was hard for me to imagine the weekly/seasonal movements he was making with just the "4 hour drive back to....". I don't want the spots, but just an overall map of the area showing the path Bill made (to the camps) through the season.

I picked up Bills book at a Muskies Canada meeting last night and read all 283 pages in one sitting ( retired ). A great read and for anyone going to the Milwaukee show I would highly recommend this to while away some hours in the off season no mater where you fish.

I'm on page 200. Good book, but it does make the itch to get back out there a little worse i think!
