My name is Travis, and I failed this season. Outside of my trip to LOTW (the promised land,) I completely struck out fishing in Iowa. I fished WELL over 100 hours combined on West-O, East-O and PC, fished the moon, stayed out all night, fished fast to slow and high to low... Nothing. Teeth marks on rubber, topwaters pulled away, lazy follows, Murphy's law reigned supreme and my frustration mounted. I caught bass, northern pike, SILVER pike, clams, crawfish. Snagged shad, perch and a terribly irritated painted turtle No muskies. I was humiliated by an animal with a brain as big as my fingernail.

Anybody else have a really bad year?

I for one am proud of you. It's a big first step to admit you have a problem.
move a hundred or so miles north and your problem is cured.

As a fellow member of the Irritated Painted turtle catcher's club I feel you.
It does sound like you are moving fish though, so I can't feel too sorry for you. Just a bad season, keep refining your techniques, use the winternet to do some research and get 'em in the spring!

I agree pheasant hunting with a good dog is fun, but please take extra care to ensure all birds are revived and properly released.

And besides that you are in Gods country when it comes to bowhunting for deer. Take that up! No guns for all of november - its paradise. As a non resident I would pay nearly $600 for a license. I have a preference point and will get back there now that the kids are out of college.

Don't worry man. By the end of winter you'll be getting the bug again and no matter how last year went you'll be overly optimistic once again, and a bit smarter.

You wouldn't have posted if you had about 3-4 of those fish situations go differently, and that could easily happen any day, but you have to be out there. My last "good" years came before I was married 13 years ago. But I keep going because some day a nice one is going to surprise me and that keeps me going. You are fortunate to have been in God's great outdoors as much as you were.

That reminds me of an advertisement on Mike Keyes a while back. It was called a disease, NCF. Not catching fish and it is real.....not like restless leg syndrome!

Tkunts, I fish Iowa mostly and sent you a PM.

I'd be very happy to give you my restless leg syndrome. Heck, I'd even pay you to take it!!
