Posts: 1405 Location: Detroit River | I've been making my own fluorocarbon leaders for 5 or 6 years now using 100 LB, 130 LB, & 180 LB Hi-Seas Fluorocarbon and have never had any issues with the line wearing on the barrel swivel or Stay-Lok snap.

Brian No issues with high seas fluoro here but started using coated wire loop protectors on some of my heavy duty trolling leaders for added piece of mind.

Posts: 284 Location: Eagan, MN | The salt guys use grommets and loop protectors to prevent chaffing and wear-thru, though those guys tend to troll a lot. My concern is with casting big baits for many days on end, weeks perhaps, without replacement. While not having had a failure myself due to chaffing/wear-thru, I'm desirous of getting ahead of misfortune where ever possible 'cause if there is any way to lose a big fish, I've done it. Posts: 31 | Hi guys new kid on the block here with a question about fluoro leaders, and this will likely open a huge can of worms: what type of knot do you use? I'm sure that's like asking what oil to burn in your outboard but I'm interested to hear what everyone thinks. In a little Google excersize yesterday I learned of two knots the salt water dudes use I've never heard of before: the Joe Miller and the San Diego Jam. Any thoughts on those two?

Oops, my bad, definitely not trying to step on toes, just thought it was an expansion on a topic. Again, new to the forum and certiainly not trying to pee anyone off. Thanks for the tip.

No problem if you use swivels with welded rings. Don't tie directly to a swivel with split ring ends.
