Curious if anyone has insight on my issue below. Thanks in advance.

I have a 55 lb thrust bow mount MinnKota. When I bought the boat, it had two 12v Optima blue batteries. They were wired in cycle and worked great! Worked for three years.

This spring, they were dead and I replaced with two 12v batteries from wal-mart. I wired up in cycle (like this: http://www.louisianasportsman.com/pics/p1233675787.jpg). I charge the batteries full and the motor works excellent for about 10 minutes...then very rapidly loses all charge and they are dead.

Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Are you sure your 55lb MinnKota is a 24 volt model and not a 12 volt? The diagram you attached is wired in series and would produce 24 volts. You want to wire them in parallel if it is a 12 volt motor... might want to confirm.
