I posted earlier this year about information on Vermilion I received some great info via PM's and I thank all who sent in info. Just curious if anybody has been there recently I will be there August 2nd thru August 8. Staying in a house on Pike Bay and most likely doing most fishing on the Big Bay and East of there. Are the fish biting?

Posts: 1126 Location: Minnesota. | Just came back from a 3-weeker up 'ere...middle of the lake area. Lost one fish to a Flaptail on the shake, saw a lot of others including a poss. state record - she was HUGE- very thick and long but got zero otherwise. Had to smile b/c we were tossing small shad-raps for anything when she came to the boat! Deep water and she stayed down and slow. The family got to see her! We've had a lot of 50's in the boat and a 54" last year but this gal was close to 58-59"! THICK!! Only saw here once! My son lost a decent fish when she rolled and got it in the teeth as she dove! I'd have paid to capture his look as he turned around... Only a few pike too, which was surprising but the few were quite large, upper 38-39" ers and healthy. Didn't fight for diddly...which was unexpected! Shad raps did fine for pike and some walleyes to 25" and a few keepers off rocky, windswept points, even mid-day. It was a family vac. so I didn't fish hard but we did put a goodly bit of time in! Not good at all as it was 3 weeks and basically zero 'ski's. I was grumpy - but in an okay way....(dammit!)

Posts: 2006 | Not much for musky stuff on the east end of Vermilion, in Tower, or in Virginia. So, stop in Cloquet or head over to Spring Bay on the West End. They have a great selection of lures in their shop and many are below cost of other stores.

Posts: 7 | I was up at Vermilion July 11th to July 18th. We boated 2-45's, 40, 36, 35. I lost a 45 inch pike at the boat...it was easily a 25+ pound fish. Saw quite a few fish and some that were interested. Had one hit a top water at night right by the boat which was a new experience for me. Unfortunately it did not get the hooks. We stay at Daisy Bay Resort. Been going to V for 16 years since I was 12.

Sounds like you had a good trip I hope mine can be half as good as that. I hope these warm temps don't mess it up. Edited by wisskie 7/28/2015 7:52 AM

Dunno for sure, I don't troll but these were mainly found on the western end. He mentioned many more floaters than is typical and also said there are many more trollers than usual. Don't wish to illicit a fight here so -- I'm out Edited by Jeremy 7/28/2015 5:13 PM

Posts: 42 Location: North MN | Never put an update here after fishing Vermillion last weekend. First full day muskie fishing and it was one to remember. Day started off slow as we only caught one 30 inch pike after six hours. On our way back to the launch we hit a rock pile that was off deep water. My buddies first cast throws out a perch colored 6 inch floating rapala. Put it right in the weeds on top of the rock bed and immediately it got taken. He thought it was a snag at first until the line was coming towards the boat. Knew it was a big fish when it got close and when we finally saw it it was bigger than expected... We were expecting to see a big pike but this was a good size ski. Ended up landing it. It was around 47-48 (ruler only goes to 40 inches on this boat). My buddies first muskie and he caught it on a walleye rod with a gander mountain reel on 6 pound test and a liter. Funny how that works because he was the only person on the boat who didn't want to start muskie fishing. Needless to say he is hooked and we are heading to Vermillion again for the Friday / Saturday fish. I was throwing a black double 10 cowgirl all day and other buddy was mostly using topwater and grandmas. Interesting to me that the muskie we caught took by far the smallest bait we were throwing. On another note, anyone have an idea what the water is like up there and where the wind is blowing this week? Have the fish been active and moving around? Edited by muski_n00b 7/29/2015 12:26 PM
